Obama, Democrats got 88 percent of 2008 contributions by TV network execs, writers, reporters

Senior executives, on-air personalities, producers, reporters, editors, writers and other self-identifying employees of ABC, CBS and NBC contributed more than $1 million to Democratic candidates and campaign committees in 2008, according to an analysis by The Examiner of data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.

The Democratic total of $1,020,816 was given by 1,160 employees of the three major broadcast television networks, with an average contribution of $880.

By contrast, only 193 of the employees contributed to Republican candidates and campaign committees, for a total of $142,863. The average Republican contribution was $744.

Cold empties Bolivian rivers of fish

Antarctic cold snap kills millions of aquatic animals in the Amazon.

With high Andean peaks and a humid tropical forest, Bolivia is a country of ecological extremes. But during the Southern Hemisphere’s recent winter, unusually low temperatures in part of the country’s tropical region hit freshwater species hard, killing an estimated 6 million fish and thousands of alligators, turtles and river dolphins.

Scientists who have visited the affected rivers say the event is the biggest ecological disaster Bolivia has known, and, as an example of a sudden climatic change wreaking havoc on wildlife, it is unprecedented in recorded history.

“There’s just a huge number of dead fish,” says Michel Jégu, a researcher from the Institute for Developmental Research in Marseilles, France, who is currently working at the Noel Kempff Mercado Natural History Museum in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. “In the rivers near Santa Cruz there’s about 1,000 dead fish for every 100 metres of river.”

With such extreme climatic events potentially becoming more common due to climate change, scientists are hurrying to coordinate research into the impact, and how quickly the ecosystem is likely to recover.

The extraordinary quantity of decomposing fish flesh has polluted the waters of the Grande, Pirai and Ichilo rivers to the extent that local authorities have had to provide alternative sources of drinking water for towns along the rivers’ banks. Many fishermen have lost their main source of income, having been banned from removing any more fish from populations that will probably struggle to recover.

The blame lies, at least indirectly, with a mass of Antarctic air that settled over the Southern Cone of South America for most of July. The prolonged cold snap has also been linked to the deaths of at least 550 penguins along the coasts of Brazil and thousands of cattle in Paraguay and Brazil, as well as hundreds of people in the region.

Water temperatures in Bolivian rivers that normally register about 15 ˚C during the day fell to as low as 4 ˚C.

Russian subs stalk Trident in echo of Cold War

Russian submarines are hunting down British Vanguard boats in a return to Cold War tactics not seen for 25 years, Navy chiefs have warned.

A British Vanguard submarine

A specially upgraded Russian Akula class submarine has been caught trying to record the acoustic signature made by the Vanguard submarines that carry Trident nuclear missiles, according to senior Navy officers.

British submariners have also reported that they are experiencing the highest number of “contacts” with Russian submarines since 1987.

If the Russians are able to obtain a recording of the unique noise of the boat’s propellers it would have serious implications for Britain’s nuclear deterrent. Using its sophisticated sonar, the Akula would be able to track Vanguards and potentially sink them before they could launch their Trident D4 missiles.

The Daily Telegraph has learnt that, within the past six months, a Russian Akula entered the North Atlantic and attempted to track a Vanguard. The incident has remained secret until now.

It is understood that the Russians stood off Faslane, where the British nuclear force is based, and waited for a Trident-carrying boat to come out for its three-month patrol to provide the Continuous At Sea Deterrent.

While patrolling in the North Atlantic, there are a limited number of places the Vanguard is permitted to go and it is thought that the Akula attempted to track it on several occasions.

Navy commanders are understood to have ordered a Trafalgar-class hunter-killer submarine to protect the Vanguard. A recording of the Akula was made by the Trafalgar submarine’s sonar operators and has been played to The Daily Telegraph.

“The Russians have been playing games with us, the Americans and French in the North Atlantic,” a senior Navy commander said.

“We have put a lot of resources into protecting Trident because we cannot afford by any stretch to let the Russians learn the acoustic profile of one of our bombers as that would compromise the deterrent.”

EPA Surrenders to NRA on Gun Control Issue

EPA rejects attempt to regulate lead in bullets after NRA protests

In a swift and unexpected decision, the Environmental Protection Agency today rejected a petition from environmental groups to ban the use of lead in bullets and shotgun shells, claiming it doesn’t have jurisdiction to weigh on the controversial Second Amendment issue. The decision came just hours after the Drudge Report posted stories from Washington Whispers and the Weekly Standard about how gun groups were fighting the lead bullet ban.

The EPA had planned to solicit public responses to the petition for two months, but this afternoon issued a statement rejecting a 100-page request from the Center for Biological Diversity, the American Bird Conservancy, and three other groups for a ban on lead bullets, shot, and fishing sinkers. The agency is still considering what to do about sinkers.

The decision was a huge victory for the National Rifle Association which just seven days ago asked that the EPA reject the petition, suggesting that it was a back door attempt to limit hunting and impose gun control. It also was a politically savvy move to take gun control off the table as the Democrats ready for a very difficult midterm election.

The NRA has spent two years tracking down rumors that the Obama administration wants to impose gun and ammo bans on the public, but hasn’t found anything credible. While the lead ban was viewed initially as a substantial chance for the administration to move into challenging the Second Amendment, the swift rejection by the EPA settled concerns inside NRA headquarters today.

Good summary of how our current set of politicians is running our nation into the ground.  The awakening of the American people has been amazing over the last year.  Whether it will be enough or is not to late, probably depends more on God’s plan.  Hopefully, the awakening will turn more back to God.

The Most Fiscally Irresponsible Government in U.S. History

Current federal budget trends are capable of destroying this country

There is an instinctive conclusion among the American public that President Obama’s stimulus package has failed to create a sustained recovery. Unemployment has increased, not declined; consumers have retrenched; housing starts have crashed along with mortgage applications; and there is a fear that a double-dip recession may very well be in the pipeline. The public perception, reflected in Pew Research/National Journal polls, is that the measures to combat the Great Recession have mostly helped large banks and financial institutions, and that’s a view common to Republicans (75 percent) and Democrats (73 percent). Only one third of either political leaning thinks government policies have done a great deal or a fair amount for the poor.

There is another instinctive conclusion among the American people. It is that the national deficit, and the debts we have accumulated, are of critical political importance. On the national debt, the money the government has spent without the tax revenues to pay for it has produced mind-numbing numbers so large as to be disconnected from reality. Zeros from here to infinity. The sums are hard to describe; it is hard to describe an elephant, but you know one when you see one. The public knows that, shuffle the numbers as you may, the level of debt is unsustainable.

Who could be surprised since millions of voters have discovered that for themselves? As one realizes the morning after the night before, there is an unavoidable penalty for excess. It is unnerving to wake up and learn that you have a mortgage on your home that exceeds the value of the property. Or, and too often both, you have a credit card line that you cannot repay and the issuer has you on the rack for ever bigger compound interest on the debt. The lesson has been well and truly learned that debt catches up with you. Millions understand that they are just going to have to find a way to live within their means—and then still eke out some savings to pay down debt. And there are well over 14 million Americans without a paying job, so the level of discontent is very high. Just how are they going to regain control of their lives?

Israel working to thwart Russia arms deal with Syria

Israel is trying to prevent an arms deal between Russia and Syria, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to stop the arms sale involving advanced anti-shipping missiles.

The deal involves the sale of advanced P-800 Yakhont supersonic cruise missiles to the Syrian military. Israel considers this weaponry capable of posing significant danger to its navy vessels in the Mediterranean Sea.

The P-800 Yakhont supersonic cruise missile. The P-800 Yakhont supersonic cruise missile.

In a conversation with Putin, Netanyahu told the Russian leader that missiles his country had delivered to Syria were then transferred to Hezbollah and used against IDF troops during the Second Lebanon War.

Meanwhile, Ehud Barak is scheduled to travel to Moscow for what will be the first-ever visit by an Israeli Defense Minister to the Russian capital, where he plans to discuss the matter with his host, Anatoly Serdyukov.

A senior Israeli official who asked to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the issue, said Israel and Russia have been engaged in discreet dialogue over arms deals to the region.

But as these talks have not yielded any results, the decision was made to upgrade the level of discussions with a senior political figure.

NRA Warns Against New Gun Control Push … From EPA

Environmental agency ponders whether lead in bullets is poisoning wildlife

The National Rifle Association, already on high alert over gun control rumors, has gone to battle stations to fight a new scheme before the Environmental Protection Agency to restrict hunters and anglers from using lead bullets, shot and sinkers.

Chief NRA lobbyist Chris Cox charges in a letter to the EPA that the effort amounts to “a vehicle to implement gun control” and could end hunting by most who can’t afford the higher priced alternatives to lead.

At issue: lead, the most widely used material for making bullets, shot, and sinkers. The Center for Biological Diversity says in a 100-page petition that lead used by outdoorsmen and women can be blamed for causing deaths in some 130 species of birds like eagles. “Lead-based bullets fragment on impact, distributing toxic lead particles widely throughout carcasses, and making it impossible for scavenging animals or humans to avoid ingesting lead along with meat,” says the center, joined on petition by the American Bird Conservancy, the Association of Avian Veterinarians, and two other groups.

The NRA counters that claims lead is causing a horrific toll on wildlife is bogus. The proof, they say, is the population explosion of American Eagles around the nation, including some inside Washington’s beltway.

But more importantly, says the NRA, the EPA is barred from regulating ammo or fishing sinkers under the Toxic Substances Control Act. But the ammo foes think that they have found a way around that by asking the EPA to regulate elements of ammo and the element they want banned is the lead.

Cox said that would counter what Congress has intended in previous laws. “Put another way, if Congress exempts a cow from regulation, one could hardly argue that it nevertheless would allow for regulation of the hide attached to the cow’s body,” said Cox.

Despite the opposition from the NRA and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a trade association for the firearm and ammunition industry, the EPA is considering banning lead. It is seeking public comment until Halloween.

Mullen: National Debt is a Security Threat

The national debt is the single biggest threat to national security, according to Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Tax payers will be paying around $600 billion in interest on the national debt by 2012, the chairman told students and local leaders in Detroit.

“That’s one year’s worth of defense budget,” he said, adding that the Pentagon needs to cut back on spending.

“We’re going to have to do that if it’s going to survive at all,” Mullen said, “and do it in a way that is predictable.”

He also called on the defense industry to hire veterans and become more robust in the future.

“I need the defense industry, in particular, to be robust,” he said. “My procurement budget is over $100 billion, [and] I need to be able to leverage that as much as possible with those [companies] who reach out [to veterans].”

Mullen highlighted the unity of purpose between the government and industry as well, in working to solve national security issues.

“I have found that universally, [private-sector workers] care every bit as much about our country, are every bit as patriotic and wanting to make a difference … as those who wear the uniform and are in harm’s way,” he said.

The question that is never asked is where does the Fed get the $1.7 trillion that is “pumped” into the economy.

There is a reason no one, not even congress, can see the Fed’s accounting records.  They are printing most if not all of that $1.7 trillion.  At some point, that will crash the dollar, clearing the way for a world currency.

Bernanke says recovery softer, Fed to act if needed

JACKSON HOLE, Wyoming (Reuters) – U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said on Friday the economic recovery has weakened more than expected and the Fed is ready to take further steps if needed to spur slowing growth.

Bernanke’s comments, in an address to an annual conference of global central bankers held by the Fed, came as the government reported that economic growth in the second quarter was weaker than it had originally estimated.

With interest rates held at ultra-low levels since December 2008, the Federal Open Market Committee, the Fed’s policy-setting body, has turned to other measures, pumping more close to $1.7 trillion into the economy.

“The committee is prepared to provide additional monetary accommodation through unconventional measures if it proves necessary, especially if the outlook were to deteriorate significantly,” Bernanke told the Fed conference, held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

He made clear, however, that the U.S. central bank has not decided what would prompt additional easing.

“At this juncture, the committee has not agreed on specific criteria or triggers for further action,” he said.

Bernanke said the U.S. central bank’s purchases of longer-term securities have been effective in lowering borrowing costs and that he believes the benefits of buying more such assets, if needed, would outweigh any disadvantages.

U.S. stocks turned lower initially after Bernanke’s comments but then recovered to trade about 1 percent higher, while U.S. Treasury bond prices were lower, as was the U.S. dollar.

OTHER OPTIONS

Bernanke also said other options to spur economic growth — such as committing to hold interest rates exceptionally low for an even longer period than is currently priced in to financial markets, or raising the Fed’s inflation targets — would be less effective in the current environment.

He stressed that the high jobless rate remains a concern to policy makers, and said the Fed would be vigilant against deflation — a dangerous downward spiral in prices that chills economic growth by making both businesses and consumers reluctant to make purchases– even though it is not currently a risk in the United States.

“Because a further significant weakening in the economic outlook would likely be associated with further disinflation, in the current environment there is little or no potential conflict between the goals of supporting growth and employment and of maintaining price stability,” he said.

Investors and economists said Bernanke’s remarks indicated that he favored more quantitative easing measures.

SPIN METER: What Biden didn’t mention on stimulus

FRESNO, Calif. — Vice President Joe Biden said this week that the Obama administration “hit the accelerator” toward spending $5 billion under the economic stimulus law to weatherize people’s homes, create thousands of jobs, help consumers save money and put the nation on track for energy independence.

Yet the weatherization program the vice president highlighted in his visit Thursday to New Hampshire is widely considered among the least organized spending projects under the $814 billion economic stimulus law and has regularly been targeted for criticism of its slow progress by auditors and outsiders. Biden didn’t hint much at its troubles.

Nearly 18 months since it started, the stimulus weatherization program has experienced spending delays, inefficiencies and mismanagement. In Biden’s home state of Delaware, the entire program has been suspended since May, and last month federal auditors identified possible fraud.

___

EDITOR’S NOTE — An occasional look behind the rhetoric of public officials.

___

In his visit to Manchester, N.H., Biden said the program already had retrofitted 200,000 homes and would meet its ambitious goals of nearly 600,000 homes by March 2012.

He called it “one of our signature programs” under the stimulus law, saying that “thousands of construction workers across the country are now on the job making energy-saving home improvements that will save working families hundreds of dollars a year on their utility bills.”

What Biden failed to mention:

_In Alaska, the program has yet to retrofit one home.

_In Texas, auditors found the private contractor earning the most in stimulus money did shoddy work on 60 percent of the houses it was hired to weatherize.

_In California, a contracting company paid nearly $3 million to caulk low-income residents’ homes didn’t train two dozen of its employees, the state’s inspector general found last week.

Just months ago, at the one-year anniversary of the stimulus law, the Energy Department’s inspector general complained in a report about “little progress” weatherizing homes and said the government’s best efforts “appeared not to have significantly increased the tempo of actual units weatherized across the nation.”

Ben Bernanke under pressure to prop up US economic recovery

When Ben Bernanke addresses the annual symposium of central bankers in Jackson Hole tomorrow he does so against arguably the most challenging backdrop in his tenure as Federal Reserve chairman.

At the end of a week of gloomy reports, Bernanke faces mounting expectations from markets that the Fed will step in to prop up the US’s faltering economic recovery. News of stalling business activity and dismal home sales have fanned talk of a double-dip recession at a time when all the easy options have run out. At the same time, divisions appear to be emerging among his committee of policymakers.

Bernanke’s speech at the Wyoming symposium, entitled The Economic Outlook and the Federal Reserve’s Policy Response, will be scoured for any signs that he will live up to his nickname of “helicopter Ben” and scatter more money over the faltering US economy.

Following a slew of downbeat economic indicators, market expectations are growing that there will be more quantitative easing from the Fed before the end of the year. Under the radical scheme, also used in the UK last year, central banks pour money into buying assets such as government bonds from banks and the commercial sector, pumping more cash into the financial system and at the same time cutting market rates.

The Fed’s latest policy meeting was reportedly the most contentious in Bernanke’s four-and-a-half-year term there, but resulted in a decision to carry out what has been described “QE-lite”. It decided to reinvest the proceeds of its maturing holdings of mortgage-backed securities by putting the funds into Treasury bonds.

Many economists say the next move will be more full-blown QE. But not everyone agrees it is the best way to prop up a fragile recovery. With the US growth outlook already “alarmingly bad”, bond yields had fallen sharply, noted Rob Carnell at ING Financial Markets. If part of the aim of QE was to lower market rates, what was the point of embarking on it when they were already falling on their own?

“The market’s fixation with QE is misguided,” said Carnell. “Buying more bonds when fixed-income markets are already rallying strongly is a bit of a waste of time, and about the only ‘good’ argument for doing so would be that it might help to prevent a rout in equity markets. They will, at least temporarily rally on action of this kind.

“The problem is that the key word here is ‘temporarily’. A policy that will not provide anything more than a shot in the arm for market confidence will sooner or later be swamped by the tide of bad news still flowing.”

Others are sceptical that Bernanke will feel he is in a position to drop any hints on more QE given the recent report in the Wall Street Journal that seven out of 17 officials disagreed with or expressed reservations about “QE-lite”.

Pakistan floods prompt mass evacuations in south

People try to get to higher ground as flood waters rise

Hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis have been ordered to evacuate their homes as flood waters threaten several cities in the south of the country.

The flood surge, after weeks of monsoon rains, has breached embankments on the Indus River, inundating villages and swamping vast areas of farmland.

Parts of Pakistan have been described as resembling an inland sea.

After threats from Pakistan’s Taliban, the UN is reviewing security for its aid workers helping flood victims.

A US official said militants planned to attack foreigners delivering aid to the millions of people affected by the devastating floods.

One Taliban spokesman told Associated Press that the presence of foreign aid workers was “unacceptable”.

However, there have been no attacks since the humanitarian crisis unfolded.

‘Pressure increasing’

The UN says more than 17 million people have been affected by the floods, and about 1.2 million homes have been destroyed, leaving five million people homeless.

The floods started in the mountainous north and have steadily surged south, damaging an estimated 3.2 million hectares (7.9 million acres) of farmland – about 14% of Pakistan’s land under cultivation according to the UN’s food agency.

Threats

A US official said threats from the Pakistani Taliban to carry out attacks against foreign aid workers in Pakistan highlighted the group’s “destructive, bankrupt vision”.

Thousands are heading for higher ground in southern Sindh province

White House National Security Council spokesman Mike Hammer contrasted the threats of the militants with the “strength of the Pakistani people” trying to recover from the floods and the aid agencies seeking to support them.

“The commitment of the humanitarian organisations… is an example for all of how humanity should be the first and only concern when facing such a tragic disaster,” he said.

Analyst: Citigroup Is Cooking the Books

Who knows if this guy is right, but isn’t the fact that we find it feasible that a company would do it more telling?

____________________________________________________________

Analyst: Citigroup Is Cooking the Books

An all-out war has broken out between Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit and a prominent securities analyst who is saying that the big bank may be cooking the books by inflating its earnings through an accounting gimmick, FOX Business Network has learned.

The analyst, Mike Mayo, of the securities firm CLSA, has been telling investors that Citigroup (C: 3.72 ,+0.06 ,+1.64%) should take a writedown, or a loss on some $50 billion of “deferred-tax assets,” or DTAs. That is a tax credit the firm has on its financial statement that Mayo says is inflating profits at the big bank by as much as $10 billion. For that critique, Mayo has been denied one-on-one meetings with top players of the firm, including CEO Vikram Pandit, Chief Financial Officer John Gerspach, and any other member of management, while other analysts enjoy full access to the bank’s top executives, FBN has learned.

In fact, Mayo hasn’t had a meeting with Pandit or anyone in Citigroup management since around the time of the financial crisis, in the fall of 2008, when Citigroup was on the verge of extinction and needed an unprecedented series of government bailouts to survive.

Since then Citigroup has been profitable, albeit marginally. Though it posted a loss for the full year of 2009, after it repaid a government bailout loan during the fourth quarter and began to unwind Uncle Sam’s ownership stake. One reason Citigroup may be unwilling to write off its DTAs: to do so may sink the troubled bank back into unprofitability.

Now, Mayo’s continued criticism of the firm’s accounting has turned a testy relationship between Pandit and Mayo into one of the most-bitter analyst-CEO confrontations seen on Wall Street for some time. When asked about the matter, a spokeswoman for Citigroup would only say “I have no comment on Mike Mayo.”

Mayo told FBN: “I’d like to know why all my competitors get meetings with Pandit and the key people there and I don’t.”

Stock research has been among the most controversial—and some would say—conflicted businesses on Wall Street. Companies employ a number of methods to force analysts to hype their shares, including as Mayo is charging, withholding access to key executives who can provide insight into the company’s operations. In 2003, big firms like Citigroup and others paid billions of dollars in penalties to settle regulatory charges that their analysts inflated stock ratings in order to win lucrative stock underwriting business from the companies they cover, leading to billions of dollars in losses for investors who relied on the dubious analysis to buy stock.

Mayo, meanwhile, has had a sometimes-testy relationship with the various companies he covers. While other securities analysts look to curry favor with management in order to gain access, or so their firm’s could do business with the companies they cover, Mayo is often confrontational during meetings and on analyst conference calls.

This is just the first step, we will see many more moves over the next year, maybe more.

Banks back switch to renminbi for trade

A number of the world’s biggest banks have launched international roadshows promoting the use of the renminbi to corporate customers instead of the dollar for trade deals with China.

HSBC, which recently moved its chief executive from London to Hong Kong, and Standard Chartered, are offering discounted transaction fees and other financial incentives to companies that choose to settle trade in the Chinese currency.

“We’re now capable of doing renminbi settlement in many parts of the world,” said Chris Lewis, HSBC’s head of trade for greater China. “All the other major international banks are frantically trying to do the same thing.”

HSBC and StanChart are among a slew of global banks – including Citigroup and JPMorgan – holding roadshows across Asia, Europe and the US to promote the renminbi to companies.

The move aligns the banks favourably with Beijing’s policy priorities and positions them to profit from what is expected to be a rapidly growing line of business in the future.

The phenomenon will accelerate Beijing’s drive to transform the renminbi from a domestic currency into a global medium of exchange like the dollar and euro.

Chinese central bank officials accompanied StanChart bankers on a roadshow to Korea and Japan in June. The bank held similar events in London, Frankfurt and Paris.

Lisa Robins, JPMorgan’s head of treasury and securities services for China, said there had been a “spike in interest” from international clients.

An increasing number of Chinese companies have been asking foreign trading partners to accept renminbi as payment, said Carmen Ling, Hong Kong head of global transaction services at Citi.

Administration halts prosecution of alleged USS Cole bomber

The Obama administration has shelved the planned prosecution of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the alleged coordinator of the Oct. 2000 suicide attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, according to a court filing.

The decision at least temporarily scuttles what was supposed to be the signature trial of a major al-Qaeda figure under a reformed system of military commissions. And it comes practically on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the attack, which killed 17 sailors and wounded dozens when a boat packed with explosives ripped a hole in the side of the warship in the port of Aden.

In a filing this week in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the Justice Department said that “no charges are either pending or contemplated with respect to al-Nashiri in the near future.”

The statement, tucked into a motion to dismiss a petition by Nashiri’s attorneys, suggests that the prospect of further military trials for detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has all but ground to a halt, much as the administration’s plan to try the accused plotters of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in federal court has stalled.

Only two cases are moving forward at Guantanamo Bay, and both were sworn and referred for trial by the time Obama took office. In January 2009, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates directed the Convening Authority for Military Commissions to stop referring cases for trial, an order that 20 months later has not been rescinded.

Military officials said a team of prosecutors in the Nashiri case has been ready go to trial for some time. And several months ago, military officials seemed confident that Nashiri would be arraigned this summer.

“It’s politics at this point,” said one military official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss policy. He said he thinks the administration does not want to proceed against a high-value detainee without some prospect of civilian trials for other major figures at Guantanamo Bay.

‘Israel ready to destroy Lebanese Army in four hours’

Report: Lebanese paper claims US envoy told LAF chief that if border incident occurred again IDF would enact plan to destroy Lebanese military within four hours.

The US warned Lebanon that if it did not prevent any recurrence of the border-fire incident that occurred earlier this month, the IDF would destroy the Lebanese Armed Forces within four hours, Israel Radio cited a report by Lebanese newspaper A-Liwaa on Friday.

According to the report, Frederick Hoff, assistant to US Middle East Peace Envoy George Mitchell, told Lebanese Army chief of staff Jean Kahwaji that Israel was ready to implement a plan to destroy within four hours all Lebanese military infrastructure, including army bases and offices, should a similar confrontation occur in the future.

Economic Armageddon: Ladies and Gentlemen, the Double Dip is Here!

The worst nightmare forecast by economic specialists over the previous years has come true: new research by economic gurus in the United States of America has revealed a bleak scenario: the United States’ economy is in a state of depression. Yes, it is the Double Dip, a roller-coaster ride to economic catastrophe and it has arrived. To come: massive debt default, the failure of entire nations and widespread starvation in the western world.

The research referring to the works of a number of leading economists (David Rosenberg, Fred Harrison, Arthur Laffer, Nobel Prizewinner Paul Krugman, Robin Griffiths) is revealed in the article by US based analyst and writer, Terrence Aym*. And it makes terrifying reading.

While these leading economists represent different views from opposite ends of the political spectrums both in the USA and the UK, on one thing they agree: the decade ahead is going to get worse.

David Rosenberg states categorically that the United States’ economy has entered another Great Depression, the beginning of the double dip much referred to in recent years, following the shocking revelation in July that the US real estate market has collapsed 27% compared with July 2009.

British economist Fred Harrison explains that property speculation around the globe was responsible for the boom and bust waves ripping through the world economy and claims that tax reforms could have avoided the crisis. What he predicts now is a decade-long depression fuelled by “a massive contraction in demand” resulting in a 45 trillion-dollar debt default and unemployment rates of 25% in the USA and UK. Worse still, Harrison predicts the failure of entire nations and “something unseen for hundreds of years could appear again: wholesale starvation of peoples in some Western countries”.

Harrison, we remember, was dubbed by Spectator Business in 2008 “the canary in the housing mine”… “Nostradamus could scarcely have been more accurate”.

According to the research in Terrence Aym’s article, US economists Arthur Laffer and Nobel Prizewinner Paul Krugman agree with Harrison and foresee higher unemployment, more foreclosures, more failed businesses, a worsening credit crisis and housing slump in the USA.

Is the U.S. the Next Bear Stearns?

The U.S. government is handling its finances just like Bear Stearns, paying for long-term liabilities with short-term funding, says Jason Trennert, chief investment strategist at Strategas Research Partners.

The difference is that the government prints its own currency. “But the private sector has shown that’s not a very good way of running a railroad,” he told WSJ.com video.

About 60 percent of the Treasury’s debt matures within three years. That begs the question of why the government isn’t issuing debt as long-term as it can, Trennert says. After all, some companies are looking at issuing 100-year bonds to lock in these low interest rates.

Trennert sees two possible explanations.

“First, you want the deficit to look as low as possible now, so you keep your interest expenses low,” Trennert said.

“The other reason is more frightening. Marginal buyers of debt, in particular the Chinese, have shown they don’t want to lend long-term. They want the leverage that comes with having Uncle Sam go back to them every week or two.”

That means the deficit could represent a national security issue, Trennert says. “I don’t want to be overly conspiratorial, but certainly you’re conceding some sovereignty when you fund yourself this way.”

To be sure, there are signals that the Obama administration is shifting to longer-term debt, he says. “But the magnitude of the debt is so large that you’ve only just begun.”

Great Article discussing the “Days of Noah” prophecy as well as the Rapture.

____________________________________________________________

As It Was In The Days Of Noah by Jack Kelly

As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man (Matt 24:37). The time leading up to the Great Flood was a lot like our time today in that it was characterized by a deliberate and escalating disregard for the ways of God. Finally “the Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on earth had become and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time” (Gen. 6:5).

What Day Is This?

If you plot the lifespans of the patriarchs in Genesis 5, you’ll discover it was 1656 years from Adam’s creation to the Great Flood.  During that time mankind had degenerated from human beings created in the very image of God who walked and talked with Him to a race whose thoughts and actions were totally depraved and bent only on evil (Gen. 6:5).

It’s been about 1977 years since man was first given the choice to be re-created by events at the Cross (2 Cor 5:17) but most of today’s world has declined.  As a result, a single look around us is all that’s needed to see that from a spiritual and moral perspective life today is becoming pretty much “as it was in the days of Noah”.

What Planet Are You From?

I’ve made mention in previous articles of the mysterious people in Genesis 6:4 called the Nephillim.   They were the offspring of marriages between angelic beings and earthlings. Would these beings with super natural strength (origin of the titans or demi-gods in mythology) be called aliens today? In many documented alien encounters there seems to be a great interest on their part in our reproductive system. Are aliens using humans to breed a super race again? In the King James rendering of Daniel 2:43 there’s a curious reference to someone “mingling themselves with the seed of men” in the last days. Is the anti-Christ part alien or in command of beings that are part alien and part human? As it was in the days of Noah?

Out Of The Way

But in all my years of study comparing the days of Noah with the end of the age one insight has recently made things much clearer to me. In Genesis 6:3 God warned of the removal of His Spirit from Earth before the coming judgment. Some see this passage as capping man’s life span at 120 years, but that can’t be its purpose.  In Psalm 90:10we’re told that an average man’s life span is 70 years, and Isaiah 23:15 supports this conclusion.  Average life spans before the flood were much longer than 120 years, and after the flood soon became much shorter.  Looking at the Genesis lifespans again shows that Shem, probably the last pre-flood man, outlived 8 of the first 9 post flood generations of his descendants, including Abraham.

The fact is that 120 years was the time God gave man to prepare for the coming judgment. He said He was going to remove His Spirit from the earth prior to that judgment.   In 2 Thes 2:7 a similar warning is given concerning the end of the age (but without a deadline), and there is confusion over it’s interpretation just as with Gen. 6:3. The only truly literal interpretation of this passage is that sometime before the anti-Christ can be revealed in all his power beginning the Great Tribulation, the restraining force of the Holy Spirit must be taken out of the way (literally out of the midst, or from among).

Then as I was reading Genesis 6 again, the most remarkable thing happened. In my Bible Genesis 6:3 is in the right hand column about 1 inch down the page. I’ve had it high lighted for years.  In the left hand column directly across from Genesis 6:3 is another verse I highlighted some time ago.

It’s Genesis 5:24 and reads; Enoch walked with God and then he was no more because God took him away. Seeing those two high lighted verses side by side like that caused the sequence of events to suddenly become so obvious to me, I don’t know why I hadn’t seen it before.  First Enoch was taken alive from earth and the Holy Spirit was withdrawn. Then in Gen. 6:5 man’s behavior is described as having become unbearably wicked and in Gen. 7 the judgment came, in that order.

Enoch’s name means teaching and according to Jude 14-15 he gave the first prophecy of the 2nd coming. Hebrew tradition holds that he was born on the 6th day of Sivan on the Hebrew calendar and was taken by God on his birthday. The 6th of Sivan is the day we know as Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. For these reasons Enoch is often seen as a model or type of the church, whose calling is also to teach the world the ways of the Lord and to talk about His coming.

You Promised You Wouldn’t Do That

The Bible declares that the Holy Spirit is sealed within believers as a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance (Ephes. 1:13-14). Paul wrote that the Holy Spirit will be withdrawn from earth sometime before the anti- Christ is allowed to trigger the judgment known as the Great Tribulation (2 Thes. 2:7).

Withdrawing the Holy Spirit with out removing the Church would break God’s promise to us since it would require “unsealing” the Holy spirit from within us. That’s something that God can’t do. “What I have said, that will I bring about,” He declares.  “What I have planned, that will I do.”(Isaiah 46:11)

If Enoch is indeed a model of the church and if the Lord’s prophecy of Matt 24:37 is meant to describe the sequence of end times events, as seems likely, then one day soon we will be taken alive (raptured) from earth like Enoch was, and the Holy Spirit will be withdrawn. Man’s behavior will quickly become unbearably wicked and the judgment will come, all in that order.  As it was in the days of Noah. Selah 08-21-10.

Devotional: Let the Redeemed Say So

Today’s (bonus) devotional is from Max Lucado’s Grace for the Moment

Let the Redeemed Say So

You have begun to live the new life,

in which you are being make new and are

becoming like the One who made you.

Colossians 3:10

I wonder if Jesus doesn’t muster up a slight smile as he sees his lost sheep come straggling into the fold — the beaten, broken, dirty sheep who stands at the door looking up at the Shepherd asking, “Can I come in?  I don’t deserve it, but is there room in your kingdom for one more?”  The Shepherd looks down at the sheep and says, “Come in, this is your home.”

Salvation is the process that’s done, that’s secure, that no one can take away from you.  Sanctification is the lifelong process of being changed from one degree of glory to the next, growing in Christ, putting away the old, taking on the new.

The Psalmist David would tell us that those who have been redeemed will say so!  If we’re not saying so perhaps it’s because we’ve forgotten what it is like to be redeemed.  Let the redeemed of the earth say so!

Walking with the Savior

______________________________________________________________

With all the insane news and end times signs today, I felt we could all use a second devotional….

This is a great reminder about what God’s will for us is.  I love the passage in John where Jesus is asked what works must they do for God.

John 6:28-29 – “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?  Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”

So often as Christians, we get caught up in works and all the doing and forget that salvation is a gift from God, paid for by Jesus.  There is nothing that we can do to ever repay it.

After we have received salvation, then we start working on transforming our lives to be more like Christ.  It is not instantaneous, but a process over the rest of our lives here on earth until Jesus comes to take us home.

We do our selves a disservice to set the expectation that sanctification occurs in a moment or that it won’t be an up and down process.  We are human, so we have sin as well and always will, but our new goal should be striving to be more like Christ so that we can shine him into this world while we are here.

May Peace be with you!

EPA trying to band Lead bullets

Beck says that the EPA has opened the comment period on the policy of banning lead bullets which he says is being done by Cass Sunstein. Beck says this is a direct assault on the 2nd Amendment and will lead to very expensive copper ammunition if the ban goes through. Basically, you can have your guns but you will pay through the nose to use them.

We are definitely experiencing a birth pain.

There have been so many articles re-writing history and showing historical roles reversed between Muslims and Christians/Jews.

It is a full court press to frame the debate as Muslims are the victims while Christians and Jews are the aggressors.  When exactly the opposite is true.

This is very, very dangerous.  Especially, within the sound bite society we live.

We must be watchful, and peacefully defend ourselves….

Opinion: Is Time a Muslim Magazine?

I did not think that the pro-Muslim/pro-Islamist and anti-Western propaganda could get any worse—and yet it just has.

TIME magazine has an August 30 cover story titled “Is America Islamophobic?” Within, the article is titled: “Islam in America: It’s part of the fabric of life, but protests reveal a growing hostility to the religion of Muslims.”

President Obama’s rather strange assertions that “seven million” Muslims live in America (only 2.5-3 million actually do), and that “Islam has always played a role in America,” actually contradict the point of this piece, but no matter.

One might wonder why any “hostility” to a productive, historically significant Muslim presence in America exists. TIME magazine does not tell us.

The article portrays Muslims as innocent victims and American non-Muslims as prejudiced racists who, historically, once banned Catholicism, tried to limit immigration, burned African-American churches, passed anti-Chinese legislation, criminalized certain Native-American rituals (polygamy, rejection of modern medicine), spawned the Ku Klux Klan, failed to elect a Catholic President until 1960, allowed Father Coughlin’s anti-Semitic, pro-Nazi rants to appear over the airwaves, and interned 120,000 Japanese and Japanese-Americans during World War Two. This is all contained in TIME’s “Brief History of Intolerance in America.”

This article could easily appear in an Egyptian or Syrian magazine; however it would be Israel that would be blamed for various alleged atrocities, and Palestinians, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Muslim Brotherhood, even al-Qaeda, who would be seen as the innocent victims.

TIME magazine does not balance out their history of American intolerance with a history of American tolerance, which included separating the state from religion, reforming religions, instituting a tradition of free speech, fighting a bloody Civil War in order to free the slaves, giving women the vote and educational opportunities, freeing Europe from Nazi fascist rule and waging a Cold war against Soviet totalitarianism.

Also missing in the TIME magazine article is the fact that Muslim leaders, in the name of Islam, have behaved very badly and for a very long time. Missing is an equal history of Muslim countries which have practiced colonialism, imperialism, forced conversions, slavery (which is still practiced), and a far more barbaric mistreatment of non-Muslims infidels.

Muslim leaders, in the name of Islam, killed and forcibly converted Hindus in India for 800 years—and are still persecuting them; they have also destroyed the Christian Church in the Middle East and Central Asia—it is no more; in its place are only mosques and minarets where once only churches stood. Muslims vanquished Zorastrianism and Buddhism, and both exiled and genocidally exterminated Jews, Armenians, and Greeks. According to Israeli historian, Benny Morris, the Arab 1948 war against Israel must now also be understood as a religious holy war, a jihad, one that is still ongoing (“The 1948 War Was an Islamic Holy War,” Middle East Quarterly, Summer 2010).

TIME magazine fails to note all this—and gives little credence to more recent historical events.

It is unbelievable what the current administration is trying to slip through the back door.

They lost the public debate on global warming and cap-n-trade so what do they do, try to change regulations via the EPA to accomplish the same thing, without a vote or public debate.

It is illegal and I am glad to see Texas is fighting it.

_____________________________________________________________

VENABLE: Texas fights global-warming power grab

Lone Star state won’t participate in Obama’s lawless policy

The state’s slogan is “Don’t mess with Texas.” But the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is doing just that, and at stake is whether the Obama administration can impose its global-warming agenda without a vote of Congress.

President Obama’s EPA is already well down the path to regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act, something the act was not designed to do. It has a problem, however, because shoehorning greenhouse gases into that 40-year-old law would force churches, schools, warehouses, commercial kitchens and other sources to obtain costly and time-consuming permits. It would grind the economy to a halt, and the likely backlash would doom the whole scheme.

The EPA, determined to move forward anyway, is attempting to rewrite the Clean Air Act administratively via a “tailoring rule,” which would reduce the number of regulated sources. The problem with that approach? It’s illegal. The EPA has no authority to rewrite the law. To pull it off, the EPA needs every state with a State Implementation Plan to rewrite all of its statutory thresholds as well.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Chairman Bryan W. Shaw saw the tailoring rule for what it really is: a massive power grab and centralization of authority. They are fighting back, writing to the EPA:

“In order to deter challenges to your plan for centralized control of industrial development through the issuance of permits for greenhouse gases, you have called upon each state to declare its allegiance to the Environmental Protection Agency’s recently enacted greenhouse gas regulations – regulations that are plainly contrary to U.S. laws. … To encourage acquiescence with your unsupported findings you threaten to usurp state enforcement authority and to federalize the permitting program of any state that fails to pledge their fealty to the Environmental Protection Agency. On behalf of the State of Texas, we write to inform you that Texas has neither the authority nor the intention of interpreting, ignoring or amending its laws in order to compel the permitting of greenhouse gas emissions.”

Texas leaders are doing what Congress so far has been unable to do (a Senate vote to stop the EPA’s global-warming power grab got just 47 votes on June 10): take on the EPA. Good thing, because Texas would be hit especially hard by these regulations.

Federalist principles have allowed Texas to become the strongest state in the union. The Lone Star State leads the nation in job creation, is the top state for business relocation and has more Fortune 500 companies than any other state and is the top state for wind generation. President Obama said he wants to double U.S. exports in five years; he could look to Texas, as we are the top exporting state in the country. The Obama administration could learn a lot from Texas.

This is amazing and infuriating.

How can this level of bias be allowed in our schools?

Where are our teachers, a lot of them christians I presume (80% of the US)?  Another example of the deception and persecution that is growing exponentially these days.

It is the worst type of deception, in that it goes after our children.  Christ warned those that would lead children (little ones) astray:

Matthew 18:6 – “But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”

HS test ‘slams’ Christianity, lauds Islam

State testmakers played favorites when quizzing high-schoolers on world religions — giving Islam and Buddhism the kid-gloves treatment while socking it to Christianity, critics say.

Teachers complain that the reading selections from the Regents exam in global history and geography given last week featured glowing passages pertaining to Muslim society but much more critical essay excerpts on the subject of Christianity.

“There should have been a little balance in there,” said one Brooklyn teacher who administered the exam but did not want to be identified.

RELIGIOUSLY ‘CORRECT’: A new Regents exam has glowing descriptions of Islam’s past, but is less forgiving when it comes to the history of Christianity.

“To me, this was offensive because it’s just so inappropriate and the timing of it was piss-poor,” he added, referring to the debate over the plan to build a mosque near Ground Zero.

The most troubling passage came from Daniel Roselle’s “A World History: A Cultural Approach,” observers said.

The passage reads: “Wherever they went, the Moslems [sic] brought with them their love of art, beauty and learning. From about the eighth to the eleventh century, their culture was superior in many ways to that of western Christendom.”

Meanwhile, an excerpt listing the common procedures used by Christian friars to introduce the religion in Latin America stated that “idols, temples and other material evidences of paganism [were] destroyed,” and “Christian buildings [were] often constructed on sites of destroyed native temples” — and built with free Indian labor, to boot.

“I can see why some people might see these questions as skewed,” said Mark MacWilliams, a religious-studies professor at St. Lawrence University in upstate Canton. “Why does the exam seem to have only documents that portray Islam as a religion of peace, civilization and refinement, while it includes documents about Christianity that show it was anything but peaceful in the Spanish conquest of the Americas?”

At the same time, MacWilliams criticized the presentation of Hernando Cortes’ conquest of Mexico — which he said portrayed him as a “choirboy” rather than a “conquistador.”

“It’s quite a whitewash,” he said.

Some other religious-studies experts contacted by The Post said they didn’t see what the fuss was all about.

Up is down, down is up and two plus two is five….

I am always amazed at how statements like “Rise of Those Scary Christians” can be made.  When was the last time that any Christian was violent?  It is fear without basis….

And we know it will continue to increase until the last days, culminating during the Tribulation, with the Antichrist and his mark.  Good news is Paul’s blessed hope, the rapture, will occur before the Tribulation.  God promises to keep his church from the wrath.

The other line that got me was the: “creepy images of a newly severe Bible-thumping underground America”.  How does this have any basis in reality?

It shows clearly the disconnect between the media/entertainment/politicians and the average American.  But I am afraid it is also due to our approach to our earthly society, summed up best in Paul’s letter to Timothy:

1 Timothy 2:1-3 –  “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;  For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;”

We are not they type to stir it up by nature.  We are not the type to complain, instead demonstrating God’s love through actions.

‘Entertainment Weekly’: ‘Last Exorcism’ About Rise of Those Scary Christians

Entertainment Weekly’s “racially insensitive” Owen Gleiberman’s insights about the original “Exorcist” aren’t quite as deep as a puddle, but at least his Christian stereotyping and bigotry are plenty rabid:

————–

So what does the devil look like in The Last Exorcism? I’d be the Antichrist if I spoiled it, but I will say that the movie is a nightmare vision of the rise of Christian fundamentalism. It’s about the dark side of piety — the cultish wrath that can emerge out of the high and the mighty. At the center of it all, once again, is a teenage girl’s gnashing madness. The original Exorcist came out a few years after the feminist revolution kicked into gear, and Linda Blair’s she-devil expressed our primal fear of a newly furious, newly empowered, and newly sexualized generation of young girls, the first that seemed to be channeling wanton forces far beyond their control. …

The movie is like The Exorcist without a spine-tingling catharsis. Still, it does leave you with creepy images of a newly severe Bible-thumping underground America. That’s the thing about the devil in movies: He’s really just a mirror.

————

So there you go, reason #11, 422 to cancel your subscription to this left-wing rag of sucker-punchery on the off-chance you haven’t already.

I have no words to describe how upsetting it is to read the article below.

How can satan infiltrate and deceive so many?  I am in lock step with the article’s author as he comments on this misled editor from Christianity Today.

The Christianity Today author is not describing our God from the Bible (the only God) but satan’s view of God.  His logic and words are so tangled, I don’t know where to start.  Please read the article and take the commentators words to heart.  We must stay watchful….

It goes to show you that you can’t just trust the name, you have to dig deeper.  We are seeing this type of deception and perversion more and more today.  But this is probably the worst since it is inside our Christian church with the potential to mislead so many….

Christianity Today’s Anti-Christianity Today

According to the online encyclopedia wikipedia.org, “Christianity Today [CT] is an Evangelical Christian periodical based in Carol Stream, IL. It is the flagship publication of its parent company Christianity Today International, claiming readership of 290,000. The founder, Billy Graham, stated that he wanted to ‘plant the evangelical flag in the middle-of-the-road, taking the conservative theological position but a definite liberal approach to social problems.’

“Today it, and its 13 sister publications, reach well over 2 million readers in its traditional paperbound form, and more than 10 million pageviews per month in their Internet form.”

It was right after I became a born-again Christian more than thirty years ago that I encountered my first copy of Christianity Today. Having grown up Roman Catholic, my appetite for anything evangelical was ravenous. Yet even in those early years of my faith, there were things that I read in that magazine that troubled me. I recognized, in Mr. Graham’s own words, “a definite liberal approach to social problems” in the promotion of “Christian” psychological counseling (see TBC, July 1999 )…..

……All of this leads us to Christianity Today’s senior managing editor, Mark Galli, and his article of July 15, 2010, titled “Divine Drama Queen,” which is his characterization of the God of the Bible. We’ve reprinted here extensive excerpts of CT’s God-demeaning/man-exalting article (albeit reluctantly, due to its wicked content) as further evidence of this “evangelical” magazine’s continuing slither into the last days’ apostasy. What Galli has written is CT’s latest installment of corrupting the faith, generated from decades of undermining the Word of God and distorting the God of the Bible. Editor Galli makes this so obvious that what he writes needs few comments on my part. Nevertheless, his writing is in italics, and my words appear in brackets and regular type:

I like a tranquil, even-keeled, self-controlled God. A God who doesn’t fly off the handle at the least provocation. A God who lives one step above the fray. A God who has that British stiff upper lip even when disaster is looming.

When I read my Bible, though, I keep running into a different God, and I’m not pleased. This God says he “hates” sin. Well, he usually yells it. Read the prophets. It’s just one harangue after another, all in loud decibels. And when the shouting is over, then comes the pouting.

Take his conversation with Hosea….He orders Hosea to take a prostitute for a wife; she becomes a symbol of Israel’s unfaithfulness to God. This is no down-on-her-luck-but-with-a-heart-of-gold prostitute like those so often portrayed in movies. This is some sleazy woman who, even when given a chance at a decent life, keeps “whoring.”

God then tells Hosea to have children with this woman. When the children are born, he tells Hosea to call the first Jezreel, explaining, “I will break the bow of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel.” The second, God calls No Mercy, because “I will no more have mercy on the house of Israel, to forgive them at all.” The third he calls Not My People, “for you are not my people, and I am not your God” (Hosea 1:1-9).

This God is like the volatile Italian woman who, upon discovering her husband’s unfaithfulness, yells and throws dishes, refuses to sleep in the same bed, and doesn’t speak to him for 40 days and 40 nights.

[I refrained from drawing conclusions up to this point on my first reading of this article because I suspected that Galli would indicate his own misunderstanding of God. I guessed wrong. This is the kind of blasphemy that one would expect from militant atheists and humanists, such as Richard Dawkins, or foul-mouthed, Christ-mocking comedians like Bill Maher. It is total blasphemy–a mischaracterization of God as well as a denigration of His perfectly holy character.]

We may think this a crude depiction, except that Jesus–God with us–seems to suffer the same emotional imbalance. He rants about Pharisees and Scribes–or “snakes” and “hypocrites,” as he calls them. So upset is he over sacrilege in the Temple, he overturns tables and drives people out with a whip. And then we find him lamenting, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not! See, your house is left to you desolate!”(Matthew 23:37-38). This God knows nothing about being a non-anxious presence. This is a very anxious God, indeed.

[It’s difficult to restrain anger here. The Creator of the universe, the sacrificial Lamb of God, who paid the full penalty for our sins, and His Father, who sent Him to the Cross for our sake–they suffer from “emotional imbalance”?! They–whose Word tells us to be anxious for nothing–they are anxious?]

I’d rather have a God who takes sin in stride. Why can’t he relax and recognize that to err is human. I mean, you don’t find us flawed humans freaking out about one another’s sins. You don’t see us wrathful, indignant, and pouting. Why can’t God almighty just chill out and realize we’re just human?

[Has the reader been manipulated by Galli into fleshing out his own similar thoughts about God? Will he now set the record straight?]

It’s that little phrase, “we’re just human,” that may be the rub with God. Sin seems to be a big deal to God because apparently we’re a big deal to him. That little phrase, “we’re just human,” signals that we may not be as big a deal to ourselves….[God] believes that to be human is to be destined for glory. As Peter put it, he has “called us to his own glory and excellence,” that we “may become partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:3-4).

[So much for repenting of the character assassination of God the Father and God the Son. Instead, Galli panders to mankind’s self-image, dangling before us the “glory” of humanity. He then leads the reader to the next step, self-deification–the same lie that Satan offered to Eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:5).]

That’s right: he [God] thinks “just humans” can become nothing less than gods. Not in the sense of beings who should be worshipped, but beings who have become, in the fullest sense, bearers of the image and likeness of their Creator….He created beings with deep awareness of themselves and their Creator, who could envision the absolute heights they could scale and the perfect love they could enjoy, and who knew they could have all this forever and ever….

[Nowhere in Scripture do you find the word “god” (with a lowercase “g” ) ever used to denote a righteous person or entity.]

…And yet God gambled. He has thrown everything into this grand enterprise. He made the creation of these beings not a matter of course or compromise, but a matter of life or death. Everything was on the line with this roll of the dice. To win meant for these creatures a bliss that only God knows. To lose meant death and eternal destruction. There was no holding back. God was going to make human glory a winner-take-all proposition, even if it killed him.

[God gambled? Does he mean that God doesn’t know how things will turn out? This is the heresy of Open Theism, which denies God’s omniscience–denies that He is the God of prophecy as He proclaimed in Isaiah 46:9-10: “Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done….”]

So when things start going south, we find him throwing dishes and slamming doors….God rants at us as an Olympian curses himself for losing concentration during a crucial part of the race. Or as a novelist chastises herself for lazy writing. For the righteous perfectionist (versus the neurotic perfectionist), every detail matters. God wants nothing less than perfection, because he knows that perfection is the only way for us to become what he created us to become: godlike.

[Galli must be having flashbacks to his college Greek mythology classes. At least I hope that’s his excuse. Of course, he could plead insanity. How much more irrational could one be than to posit a “righteous perfectionist” who throws dishes, slams doors, rants, and curses himself. Again, this is unashamed blasphemy. It is anti-Christianity from Christianity Today.]

When the stakes are so high, of course, the consequence of failure, even in the smallest detail, spells disaster. It’s like a space shuttle–one of the most sophisticated and marvelous of machines–crashing to earth because of a faulty oil ring. When God sees the space shuttle hurtling toward its destruction, he weeps, he rants, he pulls his hair out. And something inside him dies. Our God cares about us frail, fickle, weak human beings because he knows something we often forget: we’re not “just human.” He’ll go to any length to get us to grasp and live into our glory, even if it kills him.

[Our glory? What about the glory of God that Galli has dragged through the gutter of his paganized imagination?]

This is why the Bible traffics in such dramatic language. There is nothing cautious, careful, or reasonable about the human enterprise. It’s about being lost or saved. Living in darkness or in light. Knowing despair or being filled with hope. Death or life. The Bible is not interested in a religion that merely improves the human condition, or makes life manageable. It’s not about success or happiness or helping us all get along. These are paltry aspirations. No, what God wants is to raise the dead and make gods out of sinners.

[No! Once again, that was Satan’s goal.]

So what we have, for better or worse, is a melodramatic God. He yells and throws dishes, and walks off in a huff, slamming the door behind him-and then he turns around and gives his life for us. In a foreshadowing of Jesus, he says to Israel through Hosea: “How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I hand you over, O Israel?…for I am God and not a man, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath” (Hosea 11:8-9). He’s anything but calm and collected, reassuring and reasonable. He’s as mercurial as gods go.

[God is] like the crazy uncle in the family. At some point, you have to let your friends know about him, but you’d just as soon avoid having to introduce him.

I much prefer reasonable religion with reasonable expectations, and a God who doesn’t get bent out of shape every time his people trip up. But then again, I don’t love as God loves. Not God. Not others. Not myself.

[So, are we to suppose that Galli was just trying to get our attention with his blasphemies for effect? Did we misunderstand his “literary cleverness”? No. What he paraded before us was a mockery of God akin to what Jesus suffered from those who gathered to watch Him being crucified and to what every God-hating humanist has since voiced.]

The road to hell is paved with reasonable religion with a non-anxious god. Most days, I’m pretty happy driving down that road. But I keep running into this Crazy Fellow along the way. At every stop light, he jumps up and down to get my attention. He pounds on my window asking me where the heck I think I’m going. He stands on the front bumper, shouting at me to turn around. When all else fails, he throws himself in front of the car. He’s such a drama queen.

[Galli is “pretty happy” driving down the road to hell? God is a Crazy Fellow? God is a Drama Queen? I have two suggestions: 1) Send your reaction to Galli’s article to the founder and honorary chairman of CT, Billy Graham, noting what seems to be the ultimate degeneration of what he started, and 2) Pray for Mark Galli, that he will repent. “[Regarding the wicked] there is no fear of God before his eyes” (Ps 36:1).] TBC

More detail on Iran’s nuclear state as they progress toward their un-peaceful ends.

It is good to know that God has Israel’s back, because I am not sure any other government on earth does….

Zechariah 12:3 – “And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.”

Iran has material for 1-2 atom bombs: ex-IAEA aide

(Reuters) – Iran has stockpiled enough low-enriched uranium for 1-2 nuclear arms but it would not make sense for it to cross the bomb-making threshold with only this amount, a former top U.N. nuclear official was quoted as saying.

In unusual public remarks about Iran’s disputed nuclear programme Olli Heinonen, the former chief of U.N. nuclear inspections worldwide, told Le Monde newspaper that Iran’s uranium reserve still represented a “threat.”

Until he stepped down earlier this month for personal reasons, Heinonen was deputy director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency and head of its nuclear safeguards department, which verifies that countries’ nuclear programmes are not being diverted for military use.

A no-nonsense Finn, he was one of the U.N. agency’s leading experts on Iran, which denies Western suspicions that its nuclear programme is aimed at making bombs despite intelligence indications to the contrary, which he investigated for years.

In the interview published on Thursday, Heinonen said the Islamic Republic now possessed three tonnes of low-enriched uranium, material which can be used to fuel nuclear power plants, or form the core of a bomb if refined much further.

“In theory, it is enough to make one or two nuclear arms. But to reach the final step, when one only has just enough material for two weapons, does not make sense,” Heinonen said in the interview carried out just before he left office.

In comments translated from English to French, he suggested this was not sufficient to constitute a serious bargaining chip in any negotiations with the United States, the Islamic Republic’s old adversary.

“But this constitutes a … threat,” he said, apparently referring to Iran’s LEU stockpile.

Heinonen said the United States estimated that Iran would need a year to convert its low-enriched uranium to higher-grade material, adding that this was a not a “bad estimate.”

More preparation for the coming war as the Psalm 83 players continue to solidify their alliances.

It is amazing to watch, just a while back, Lebanon was a largely Christian country with good ties to the US.

Just as predicted by prophecy though, they have turned their alliance to Iran and Syria as has Turkey….

Iran prepared to arm Lebanon ‘if it seeks military assistance’

Hezbollah leader Nasrallah vowed on Tuesday that his Iranian-backed group could help secure aid for Lebanon’s poorly equipped army.

Iran is prepared to sell weapons to Lebanon if Beirut asks for help in equipping its military, the Islamic Republic’s defense minister said Wednesday.

Gen. Ahmad Vahidi’s comments come one day after the leader of Lebanon’s Shiite Hezbollah group, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, called on the Lebanese government to formally seek military assistance from Iran.

“Lebanon is our friend,” Vahidi was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency. “If there is a demand in this respect, we are ready to help that country and conduct weapons transactions with it.”

In a televised speech on Tuesday, Nasrallah vowed that his Iranian-backed group could help secure the aid for Lebanon’s poorly equipped army.

The Hezbollah leader made his suggestion after a U.S. congressman suspended $100 million of American military aid to Lebanon earlier this month over concerns the weapons could be used against Israel and that Hezbollah may have influence over the Lebanese army.

Lebanon’s government has since opened an account at the central bank to receive donations to help it purchase weapons for the military.

As we watch the saber-rattling and rumors leading up to wars in the middle east, it has always struck me how Iran seems to be almost taunting its enemy to attack but never gets called on it by the media.

I am sure it comes from their leaders believe that he wants to hasten the return of the 12th Iman.

Something to watch….

Iran: We should hit enemy outside ME

Military adviser says Israel or US attack is unlikely.

The Islamic regime should prepare to retaliate in the Middle East and across the globe against any enemy attack, Iranian military advisor Maj. Gen. Seyed Yahya Rahim Safavi said on Tuesday according to a Fars News Agency report.

“Wisdom tells us that Iran’s Armed Forced should prepare and strengthen themselves for all-out defense and retaliatory attacks on the enemies even outside the region by maintaining their full preparedness and boosting their combat capabilities,” Safavi stated.

Safavi added that a US or Israeli attack was unlikely. “Americans and the Zionists are not in proper conditions to launch a military attack against Iran.”

Safavi serves as a military adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Khamenei also said last week that Teheran’s response to an American attack would not be limited to the Middle East.

Baucus on Reading Bill: We Hire Experts for That

As an update on the story out of Libby, where Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius joined Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) for a listening session Monday, apparently Senator Baucus- the Chairman of the US Senate Finance Committee who helped author the federal health care bill- still hasn’t even read the entire thing.

This according to The Flathead Beacon which filed this report.

Judy Matott asked Baucus if he would work to improve Libby’s image, and then asked him and Sebelius, “if either of you read the health care bill before it was passed and if not, that is the most despicable, irresponsible thing.”

Baucus replied that if Libby residents assembled an economic development plan, he would do what he could to help, and he took credit for “essentially” writing the health care bill that passed the Senate.

“I don’t think you want me to waste my time to read every page of the health care bill. You know why? It’s statutory language,” Baucus said. “We hire experts.”

So he wants to take credit for writing the legislation, but still hasn’t even read the bill?  Reminds me of when one of my young kids grabs the broom and pats it against the floor.  You graciously thank the child for helping sweep the floor- even when realizing they didn’t really do a thing to actually help.

As a side note, Judy brings up another great point: the only time the Montana press corps does a story about Libby is when it pertains to the asbestos issue, and it has hurt Libby’s image and economy.  Maybe the cameras can show up to tell a good story about Libby every now and then.  Go visit and you can find plenty.  When we went to Libby for a live show of “Voices of Montana” during Logger Days, I had a nice lady who owns a business on Main Street come up to me during a commercial break and hand me a note graciously thanking me for coming to Libby and telling the story of Libby other than just the asbestos issue.

So let me get this right, some Jews walk through a mosque’s courtyard to get to their holy site (a spring) and the Palestinians riot because they are offended?

Islam is the religion of peace and Judaism is the religion of hatred?

The world is upside down….

Palestinians torch cars in Jerusalem violence

Aug 26 (Reuters) – Palestinians torched half a dozen vehicles in East Jerusalem on Thursday and threw stones and firebombs at Israeli police after Jewish settlers approached a mosque, local residents and police said.

There were no reported injuries in the incident in the volatile Silwan neighbourhood, where tensions have flared between Palestinians and a small group of settlers who have moved there in the past two decades.

Local residents said settlers tried to reach a spring, which religious Jews view as a biblical site, by crossing through a mosque courtyard.

Israeli police said Palestinians then took to the streets in violent demonstrations, throwing rocks and firebombs at police and vehicles, burning six cars.

Volcano erupts in southwestern Colombia

BOGOTA, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — Galeras Volcano, located in San Juan de Pasto, Narino department’s capital, in the southwest of Colombia, erupted on at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday local time (0900 GMT), without report of victims.

Assistant director of the Colombian Geology and Mining Institute (Ingeominas) Martha Calvache told local radio station Caracol, that the alert on the volcano were raised from orange to red, the highest level, which implies an “imminent or current eruption.” This made the authorities to order the evacuation of thousands of residents in nearby villages and town.

But “it has not been possible to analyze the material coming out from the volcano, which could be associated to ashes or probably to lava,” Calvache said.

Later, Ingominas said in a statement published on its website that “to the moment there were no reports of ashes fall in Sandona and La Florida municipalities located in the northwestern side of the volcano.”

Obama sends $6m to global Muslim sites

And he wonders why we are confused about his faith.  Not only is it against the constitutional principle (interpretation) they preach, but it is the deception of actions verses words.

Christ made it clear how we should interpret this situation.  He said always judge a person by their fruit.

Also, amazing that we continue this type of giving when we are in an economic depression…

Obama sends $6m to global Muslim sites

President Barack Obama’s faith may not be clearly identifiable, but he’s willing to usurp the U.S. Constitutional principle of a strict separation of church and state when it comes to using American taxpayer dollars to restore Muslim holy places.

According to the Houston Chronicle, “the good will tour of the Middle East by the imam behind the proposed mosque near ground zero is just part of the U.S. government’s efforts to reach out to the Muslim world.”

The Obama administration, this year, will spend almost $6 million to restore 63 cultural and historic sites that include mosques and minarets, in 55 countries, as revealed by State Department documents.

In 2001 under a program created by Congress, the department will fund a minimum of five projects in as many nations at a cost of more than $271,000.

The contributions include the 16th Century Grand Mosque in Tongxin, China at $76,135 and $67,500 for the 18th Century Golden Mosque in Lahore, Pakistan. Additionally, $62,169 will be spent on restoring a 19th century minaret in Mauritania’s ancient city of Tichitt; $50,437 for the Sundarwala Bay, a 16th Century Islamic monument in New Delhi, and $15,450 to restore the 18th Century Gobarau Minaret in Katsina, Nigeria.

As reported by the Chronicle, ‘the amount spent on mosque restoration projects is a fraction of the total in the 2010 Ambassadors’ Fund for Cultural Preservation, which also will fund projects to restore Christian and Buddhist sites as well as museums, forts and places.”
The U.S. government has spent nearly $26 million on the program to finance approximately 640 cultural preservation projects in more then 100 nations.

Biden hails credit

So yesterday he says we are on the right path, and today he is shocked a small business owner can get credit?

Which one is it?

_____________________________________________________________

Biden hails credit

Since practically Day One of the Obama administration, there’s been a crystal clear message: Credit lines have to loosen in order to improve the economy.

“It’s a recovery that will be measured by whether families and entrepreneurs can get the loans they need,” President Barack Obama said in 2009.”That’s why we’re freeing up credit that’s frozen with a program that supports the market for more car loans, and student loans, and small business loans; and with a plan that will partner government resources with private investment to break the logjam that is currently preventing our banks from lending money to even the most creditworthy customers.”

But in one of Vice President Joe Biden’s frequent casual moments, he joked about just how tight credit lines still are 19 months later.

At Pete’s New Haven Style Apizza for the Middle Class Task Force roundtable, the restaurant’s co-owner Joel Mehr “told Biden that he and his co-owners have two stores and are getting ready to open a third (great news for lovers of good pizza),” according to a pool report.

Biden then asked Mehr, “How in God’s name did you get credit?”

“Mehr said he went to 20 banks before finding a local one in D.C. that would give him a loan,” the pool report said.

More on the flooding, I would say this has reached epic levels.  God is trying to wake us up….

UN Says 800,000 Cut Off by Pakistan Floods

ISLAMABAD– Floods have isolated about 800,000 people in Pakistan who are now only reachable by air and aid workers need at least 40 more helicopters to ferry lifesaving aid to the increasingly desperate people, the United Nations said.

The appeal Tuesday was an indication of the massive problems facing the relief effort in Pakistan more than three weeks after the floods hit the country, affecting more than 17 million people and raising concerns about possible social unrest and political instability.

“These unprecedented floods pose unprecedented logistical challenges, and this requires an extraordinary effort by the international community,” said John Holmes, U.N. under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs.

Earlier, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said hundreds of health facilities had been damaged and tens of thousands of medical workers displaced and the country’s chief meteorologist warned that it would be two weeks until the Indus River — the focus of the flooding still sweeping through the country — returns to normal levels.

Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry said high tides in the Arabian Sea would slow the drainage of the Indus into it, but that those tides would begin changing Wednesday. He said the Indus would reach peak flood stage late this week.
