Some verses from my daily reading that stood out to me this morning…

Matthew 5:46-48

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 Therefore [a]you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Matthew 18:15-20

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Discipline and Prayer

15 “If your brother sins[a], go and [b]show him his fault [c]in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. 16 But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every [d]fact may be confirmed. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as [e]a Gentile and [f]a tax collector. 18 Truly I say to you, whatever you [g]bind on earth [h]shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you [i]loose on earth [j]shall have been loosed in heaven.

19 “Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them [k]by My Father who is in heaven. 20 For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”

If you’re not certain you’re saved, here is what you should do, right now:
  1. Acknowledge that you have sinned against a holy God and ask for forgiveness (even if you don’t feel you deserve it) (Rom. 3:23).  Genuinely feel the pain of your sin and be willing to turn from it (repent) (Acts 3:19).
  2. Believe in your heart and mind that Jesus is the Son of God, that he died on the cross for you (John 3:1-18) in your place, and was raised back to life.  There is no one else you can turn to (John 14:6): “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”
  3. Confess that you are trusting Jesus as your personal Savior.  Since Jesus is alive, you can talk to him.  This is called prayer.  So talk to him right now, in your own words, accept his invitation to know him.
It’s simple faith through grace, the kind of faith a little child would have.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Eph. 2:8-9)

Key scripture verses from my reading this morning…

_________________________________________________________________

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from [a]sexual immorality; that each of you know how to [b]possess his own [c]vessel in sanctification and honor, not in [d]lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God;

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you, 12 so that you will [a]behave properly toward outsiders and [b]not be in any need.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Those Who Died in Christ

13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep [a]in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive [b]and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a [c]shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive [d]and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 5:3

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then [a]destruction [b]will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.

1 Thessalonians 5:4-11

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you [a]like a thief; for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; so then let us not sleep as [b]others do, but let us be alert and [c]sober. For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night. But since we are of the day, let us be [d]sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. 11 Therefore [e]encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-22

English Standard Version (ESV)

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.

I am going to start posting some Scripture each day that I come across in my daily reading.

It is something that I have started each morning and has really helped me focus each day.

The verses will be ones God has drawn me to from the chapter I read.

It is amazing how much more you can get out of the bible each time you read it.

God’s word is amazing!

Scriptures for the day

John 8:31-32 (NKJV) – “…if you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John 8:7 (NKJV) – “…He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”

John 8:34-36 (NKJV) – “…most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.  And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.  Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

John 8:51 (NKJV) – “Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.”
