Indonesia rocked by second earthquake
A SECOND earthquake hit Indonesia last night, just hours after US President Barack Obama arrived for a brief visit as part of his nine-day tour of Asia.
The magnitude 5.2 earthquake hit at 7:39pm local time.
The earthquake struck at a depth of 69kms and about 193kms south-south-east of Jakarta, the Indonesian capital located on the northwestern coast of Java, according to the United States Geological Survey.
Earlier, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit western Indonesia.

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck Serbia early Wednesday, seismologists said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The quake hit at 1:56 am (0056 GMT) with its epicentre at 10 kilometres (six miles) north of the central city of Kraljevo, the Serbian seismological institute said.
It was felt across the country, including the capital Belgrade.
The US Geological Survey measured it with a magnitude of 5.3 at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometres.
The quake was immediately followed by four other less powerful aftershocks, the Serbian institute said.

Earthquake kills two in central Serbia

A moderate earthquake has hit central Serbia, killing two people and injuring at least 50 others.
The tremor had a magnitude of 5.3 and its epicentre was near the city of Kraljevo, some 150km (94 miles) south-west of the capital.
The quake struck at 0156 (0056 GMT), the US Geological Survey said.
Eyewitnesses said buildings, including the local hospital, were slightly damaged during the quake and some homes were without water and electricity.
Serbia’s interior minister said that the two people who died were a couple, killed when the roof of their house collapsed.
Ivica Dacic said material damage to the town of 70,000 people was considerable and that rescue teams and police had already been deployed to the area.
One eyewitness and Kraljevo resident, Milica Lazarevic said the town was badly damaged.
“The town is littered with debris. Some older houses are destroyed completely,” she said.
“My street and perhaps half of the town have no phones, water and electricity.”

Rare earthquake in Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta puzzles experts
It was a small earthquake, measuring just 3.1 on the Richter scale, but its location in the heart of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta has experts buzzing.
The Oct. 15 quake was centered 7 miles northwest of Lathrop, on Union Island. No faults are known to exist in that area, where earthquakes are rare.
The temblor could offer new insights on safety issues in the Delta, where concerns about flood protection and water quality during a major quake have been growing. It is also a reminder that many mysteries lurk below ground – even in California, a nucleus of earthquake research.
“It was a surprise to us,” said Jack Boatwright, a geophysicist at the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park who is studying the quake. “There’s something down there that we don’t know about.”
Catie Marchini felt the quake when it struck at 4:04 a.m. She and her husband live on the western edge of Manteca, about 10 miles southeast of the epicenter.
“My husband I both woke up, because we heard the house creak and we didn’t know what it was at first,” said Marchini, 29. “It was kind of weird, because both my husband and I are pretty heavy sleepers.”
Marchini grew up on a farm that sits on the quake’s epicenter. Her parents still live there, in a house on Roberts Island, just across the river from Union Island.

Magnitude 4.6 Earthquake Hits Northwest Wyoming
JACKSON, Wyo. — A magnitude 4.6 earthquake has hit northwest Wyoming, apparently triggering a landslide on a hiking trail, but no injuries have been reported.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake hit at about 11:45 a.m. Sunday.
Bridger-Teton National Forest spokeswoman Mary Cernicek says rangers are investigating reports that a landslide covered about a quarter-mile of a trail in the national forest about 20 miles northeast of Jackson.
Cernicek says some hikers may have been further up the trail, beyond the landslide, but she didn’t know how many. She says no one is believed to have been in the slide.
Cernicek says the slide wouldn’t prevent any hikers from getting out. She says a forest ranger is checking to see if anyone is on the trail.

Earthquake experts see the ‘Big One’ getting bigger
Recent reports suggest that the major rupture predicted for the southern San Andreas fault could be longer and stronger than the last big quake, shaking from Monterey County down to the Salton Sea.
The “Big One” that has been forecast for the San Andreas fault could end up being bigger than earthquake experts previously thought.
Recent research showing that a section of the fault is long overdue for a major earthquake has some scientists saying the southern portion of the fault is capable of a magnitude 8.1 earthquake that could run 340 miles from Monterey County to the Salton Sea.
That’s significantly stronger and longer than the southern San Andreas’ last major rupture, in 1857. Such a temblor would cause much more damage because with a larger stretch of the fault rupturing, a larger area would be exposed to the quake and the shaking would last longer.

The quake was centered 717 miles (1,154 km) SE of Tijuana, Mexico. No tsunami warning was issued, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, although the agency said it could cause local waves. The quake, initially reported as a magnitude 6.6, was centered in the Gulf of California, 65 miles south of Los Mochis in the state of Sinaloa on the mainland. It was very shallow, just 6.2 miles below the seabed. The Hotel Santa Anita in nearby Los Mochis, Mexico, reportedly felt very strong shaking, but the hotel was not damaged by the quake. There are no immediate reports of damage or injury.”

Fearing a global catastrophe, the mayor of Naples may halt exploration of the massive volcano that lies under her city. But some scientists say inaction could be riskier.
It is a stretch of southern Italy known as the Phlegraean Fields, or “burning fields.” According to Greek mythology, this is where the god of fire, Hephaestus, made his home and where an epic battle between the Titans and the world’s most powerful deities shook the earth. The ancient Romans said the entrance to Hades was also here, hidden beneath a serene lake.Thousands of years later, the site is still subject to epic forces, but the story is more science than myth. The ground under the small fishing villages in this area around Naples is in constant slow movement because of volcanic activity deep below the surface. In Pozzuoli, a town just north of the city, the walls of the terra-cotta villages are falling down. The earth has risen and dipped more than 11 feet in the last decade, destroying roads, a hospital, and thousands of homes. Small tremors are common. On the outskirts of town, fields of boiling mud and dramatic sulfur spouts known as the Solfatara are a constant reminder that Naples sits on the Campi Flegrei caldera, or cauldron, one of the world’s most dangerous volcanoes.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — One of the strongest earthquakes on record in Oklahoma rattled parts of five states Wednesday and left two people with minor injuries.
The earthquake struck at 9:06 a.m. about six miles east of Norman in Cleveland County, sharply shaking portions of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The U.S. Geological Survey estimated the magnitude to be 4.3, but research seismologist Austin Holland said the Oklahoma Geological Survey measured it at 5.1. The higher figure would make Wednesday’s temblor the second-strongest here since records began.

Two major earthquakes occurred today, luckily no tsunami was generated. The Birth pains are firing up again, here comes another contraction.

TWIN earthquakes struck early today off the coast of Papau, the largest province of Indonesia, the US Geological Survey said.
The first 6.6 magnitude tremor struck at 2.10am local time near the southern coast of Papau at a depth of 21.2km.
The second, measuring 7.2, struck at 2.11am local time.
Local officials warned the second quake had the potential to trigger a tsunami, AP reported.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
It rattled the town of Tual on nearby Maluku island, said Fauzi, chief of the Indonesian meteorological and geophysics agency, who had no further reports from the field.
The area closest to the epicentre is a remote, sparsely populated part of the country. It is located some 2900 kilometres east of the capital, Jakarta.
It is closer to Darwin, which sits some 900 kilometres to the south.
Indonesia straddles a series of fault lines that make the vast island nation prone to volcanic and seismic activity.

I don’t understand why more ministers and churches talk about prophecy.
It is so inspiring and reassuring that we believe in the One True God.
It affirms our faith and makes us stronger.
There is loads of information given as well as very good context.
I especially like the end of the 3rd and 4th segment. When he talks about the fiery furnace from Daniel as a picture of end times prophecy and also what the true test of belief in True Christ is that Jesus is God.

In my posts I have warned you of what is to come based on what Jesus has showed us from His warnings. There is no question we are now witnessing every word Jesus spoke to us about the weird weather and the intense heat that would cause much concern for the nations. Scripture as you can see is very specific about the details of what is going to take place just prior to Jesus Christ returning to Earth. In my book I provide you with a host of reports proving Christ’s warnings are upon us, but this next report is one that I haven’t put in my book yet as it is new news. NZ quake creates a new fault-line
The New Zealand earthquake that smashed buildings, cracked roads and twisted railway lines has ripped an 11ft wide fault-line in the Earth.
Mark Quigley, a Canterbury University geology professor, said yesterday what “could be a new fault” had ripped across the planet and pushed up some surface areas.
The quake was caused by the continuing collision between the Pacific and Australian tectonic plates, said Prof Quigley. “One side of the earth has lurched… up to 11 feet,” he told New Zealand’s National Radio. “We saw two houses that were snapped in half.”

The earthquake that devastated a city in New Zealand tore open a new 11ft faultine in the Earth’s surface.
The 7.1-magnitude quake which hit Christchurch, the country’s second-largest city, destroyed about 500 buildings and caused an estimated £930million of damage.
But hundreds of lives were saved by tough building rules, it was claimed. Only two injuries were reported.

Roger Bates, whose dairy farm at Darfield was close to the quake’s epicentre 19 miles west of Christchurch, said the new faultline had ripped up the surface across his land.‘The whole dairy farm is like the sea now, with real soil waves right across the dairy farm.
‘We don’t have physical holes (but) where the fault goes through it’s been raised a metre or metre and a half.’

For the second time in less than a week, earthquakes shake parts of Oklahoma, does that seem out-of-place? They were small, but the earth has been very active in diverse places.

6 small earthquakes shake parts of Oklahoma
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – For the second time in less than a week, six small earthquakes have been recorded in a single day in central Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Geological Survey said the six earthquakes on Saturday ranged from preliminary magnitudes of 1.5 to 3.3.
On Wednesday in the same area about 30 miles from Oklahoma City, geologists also recorded six earthquakes that ranged from a preliminary 1.8 magnitude to 3.1. Another quake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.7 was recorded Friday about 10 miles east of the Saturday temblors.
No injuries or damage was reported from any of the earthquakes.
Quakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3 are generally the smallest felt by people.

Mr Parker said he did not want to overstate the level of damage “but I think it’s like an iceberg. There is, in a sense, below the visible line significant structural damage.”

7 Signs of the End Times

What are the signs of the end times?
It’s important to know so we can explain to others why Christians believe what we believe.
As Peter says:
“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” 1 Peter 3:15 (NLT)
Unfortunately, too many Christians are unable to explain why they believe we’re in the last days when the opportunity presents itself.
One argument in particular seems to catch today’s Christians off guard.
Peter forewarned us of this argument:
“Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. They will say, ‘What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.'” 2 Peter 3:3-4 (NLT)
The particular version I hear most often is, “Sure, you think Jesus is coming, but so have previous generations.”

Danger: Third Quake in Six Weeks in Nuclear Iran
A third earthquake in less than six weeks has hit Iran, killing at least three people and injuring 21. The 5.9-magnitude quake hit the city of Damghan in northern Iran, 175 miles east of Tehran, late Friday night. Fifteen villages were reportedly damaged.
Earthquake-prone Iran suffered a 5.7-quake on July 30. Some 300 people in northeastern Iran were injured at the time. Ten days earlier, a 5.8-earthquake hit the south of the country, killing at least one and injuring 32. Hundreds of homes were damaged in both.
Experts have warned that Iran’s propensity for earthquakes, its non-strict building codes, and the fact that several of its nuclear facilities are situated near densely-populated urban areas could have catastrophic consequences for Iran, its neighbors, and world oil prices. Experts estimate that an average of one serious tremor hits the country every day.
Seven years ago, 26,000 people were killed by a 6.6-magnitude quake in the historic city of Bam in southeastern Iran.

Three killed, 40 injured in Iran quake
Tehran: Three people, including two children, have been killed and 40 others injured in an earthquake which struck Iran’s biggest desert, Dasht-e Kavir, state television reported on Saturday.
The 5.9 magnitude quake struck on Friday south of the northern city of Damghan.
In a separate report, the state television website quoted secretary general of Iran Red Crescent, Zaher Rostani, as saying that an elderly woman was also among those killed in the quake.
The website said six villages near Damghan were damaged in the quake, which was about 278 kilometres east of Tehran.
The tremor, which struck at 11:53pm (1923 GMT) Friday, was also felt in the capital Tehran.
Iran sits astride several major fault lines in the Earth’s crust, and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
The worst in recent times was a 6.3 magnitude quake which hit the southern city of Bam in December 2003, killing 31,000 people, about a quarter of its population, and destroying the city’s ancient mud-built citadel.

Residents of Galilee region report quake at 1:25 am. Geophysical Institute says measured 3.1 on Richter scale, epicenter near Kibbutz Yiron
No injuries or damage have yet been reported. “I don’t know of any damage,” a resident told to Ynet. “The cupboards shook and my dog was startled and barked a little. It was about 1:25 am. It’s not the first time it’s happened. The epicenter is probably somewhere north of Israel.”
The same resident suspects the earthquake damaged the electricity network in south Lebanon. “Usually, when I look towards the villages there, there are many more lights at this hour,” he said. “Apart from a few points of light, which were probably from generators, everything was dark.”
However, Arab news sources reported problems with the electricity supply in Lebanon due to the heat wave.
Last March there was an earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale just north of the Sea of Galilee, and the Geophysical Institute explained this was not an unusual occurrence.
