Prophecy Matters

Nov 22, 2010

Check out Jim’s group (www.prophecymatters.com) for site upgrades and added features and initiatives. We are making a push for a big 2011, to share with a hurting world that Bible prophecy does indeed matter for individuals, no matter where they are. PM will be announcing exciting new features in the coming weeks and we invite you to join us!

New polling data suggests that four-in-10 Americans now believe marriage has outlived its usefulness. Merely living together is a growing phenomenan—unheard of even a generation ago. Imagine our great-grandparents living in such a world!

There are myriad reasons but fundamentally, a growing number of Americans simply do not believe in the authority of Scripture. They do not believe the Bible is true or relevant today. This is directly responsible for the breakdown in biblical values. For a hundred years—as I’ve written many times—liberal scholars undermined Scripture and the Living God by first casting subtle doubt on the historicity of the Bible, beginning with Genesis. This is key in understanding where we are today.

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, THE VATICAN’S LATEST, PAINFUL PRONOUNCEMENT ON ISRAEL IS WRONG: Paul’s letter to Rome affirms that Jews are the chosen people

A new headline in the Jerusalem Post reads: “Vatican synod calls for end to Israel’s ‘occupation’: At conference on Christians in the Middle East, US Melkite archbishop says: ‘There is no longer a chosen people.’”

The New York Times headline reads: Bishops at Meeting Urge Israel to End Its Occupation of Palestinian Territories.” The Times reported: “In a final communiqué at the end of a two-week-long meeting at the Vatican on the plight of Christians in the Middle East, the bishops also urged Israel not to use the Bible ‘to wrongly justify injustices,’ apparently referring to Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. But in a news conference Saturday, the archbishop in charge of the committee that drafted the communiqué, Cyrille Salim Bustros, appeared to go further, saying the Bible did not justify a Jewish presence in Israel. ‘The concept of the promised land cannot be used as a base for the justification of the return of Jews to Israel and the displacement of Palestinians,” he said. “Sacred scripture should not be used to justify the occupation by Israel of Palestine.’”

Here is a link to the official Vatican translation of the “Message to the People of God” that the synod fathers of the Special Assembly for the Middle East of the Synod of Bishops approved on Friday, October 22, 2010.

Idolatry is Biggest Obstacle to World Mission, Says U.K. Theologian

CAPE TOWN, South Africa – Respected theologian Chris Wright gave a challenging critique Saturday of the evangelical movement when he said a disturbing number of its leaders are guilty of idolatry.

More on this story of deception within our christian religion.  This belief that the church replaced the Jews as God’s chosen people is flat wrong.  We must not be deceived.  We must wake our brothers and sisters up and assure they are not deceived as well…

Catholic Cleric: Jesus Cancelled Biblical ‘Chosen People’

The Creator’s promise in the Bible that the Promised Land belongs to the Jewish People is no longer valid, a Catholic synod declared. An American archbishop at the Synod explained Saturday that the promise of the Creator was “abolished by the presence of Christ.”

In a decision that is bound to set off a furious reaction from many Jewish leaders, the synod concluded that “recourse to theological and biblical positions which use the Word of G-d to wrongly justify injustices is not acceptable.”

Turning Churches Against Israel

Mark Tooley
October 19, 2010

This article was originally published on the FrontPage Magazine website, and is reposted with permission.

“With God on Our Side,” the new anti-Israel movie produced by an evangelical pastor and aimed at evangelical audiences, is touring America this month, with anti-Israel British Anglican priest Stephen Sizer in tow.  On October 27, it was originally going to be screened in the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, doubtless hoping to appeal to young evangelical Congressional staffers, whose numbers and influence likely will increase in the new Congress.  Now, for whatever reason, it instead will screen at a Lutheran church on Capitol Hill.

The Evangelical Left is anxious to neutralize evangelicals as America’s typically most pro-Israel demographic, especially by focusing on the plight of Palestinian Christians, who are portrayed as victims exclusively of Israeli oppression.  “With God on Our Side,” predictably, portrays pro-Israel Christians as mindless zealots indifferent to Palestinian suffering and exploiting Israeli Jews as merely tools for precipitating the Second Coming.  Hapless quotes from Christian Zionists are contrasted with thoughtful articulations from Palestinian Christians and other pro-Palestinian advocates.

What the synod has declared is wrong.  How far we have fallen as a religion.  We need to return to our roots.  The Bible is the Word of God and is infallible.  The Jews are God’s chosen people and he has a covenant with them, but he also has a covenant with the church.  Different covenants, both working to fulfill his word.  We, the church, did not replace the Jews.  Many are being deceived and led astray…

Almost 2000 years after the Roman destruction of Jerusalem… behold, the Jewish people are still with us…and have…become a vibrant nation state.
his descendants to give them the land of Israel was abolished by Jesus.  Specifically, Archbishop Bustros declared that “For Christians, one can no longer talk of the land promised to the Jewish people…. There is no longer a favored people, a chosen people; all men and women of every country have become the chosen people,.”  Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu, “Catholic Cleric; Jesus Cancelled Biblical ‘Chosen People’, Arutz Sheva, October 24, 2010.

WHAT IS A TRUE CHRISTIAN?

By Grant Phillips

Perhaps the most misunderstood word in existence is “Christian”. Its origination is found in Acts 16:31, “…And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” We see in the previous verses to verse 31 that the disciples were preaching the Lord Jesus, and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord. They were exhorted by Barnabas to cling unto the Lord. Barnabas left and brought back Saul (who was later called Paul) and they taught the people about Jesus. So, simply put, Christians are followers of Jesus.

It did not take Satan long though to muddy the water. People began seeing a Christian as one who was religious. However, religion and Christianity are not the same. Religion is man seeking a god, through his own works. Christianity is all about Jesus Christ and what He has provided for those who will follow Him.

Today, generally speaking, we are so far away from the real truth of being a Christian, it is no wonder that those who do not know Jesus (the world) can tell little difference between themselves and a Christian.

Politicians (not all) use Christianity when it is convenient for them. When it is not convenient, look out. Many politicians will say, “I am a Christian. I pray. I read the Bible. I go to church.” Does that make them a Christian? Maybe when we arrive in Heaven, we should ask the millions of babies who have been murdered in the wombs of their mothers. Maybe God Himself will have something to say to the politicians and their followers about how He has been legislated out of every area of our lives.

The Hollywood crowd (not all) lives as if anything and everything goes. The raunchier they can live, the better. The (more…)

Israel Isn’t There

Israel Isn’t There

It’s difficult to believe that critics of the Jewish state who are leaders in the American church do not understand what their criticisms project. Increasingly, I am having conversations with Christians who believe one of our priorities should be not making radical Islam mad at us.

Guess what? Islam has been at odds with all other religions for over a thousand years. Today, the leaders of Hamas, Al Qaida, Hezbollah, etc., are counting on American Christians to advocate appeasement. Appeasement takes many forms.

The Almighty, Liberals and Liberty

http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | In a recent column, New York Times columnist Charles M. Blow wrote: “It’s sometimes easy to lose sight of just how anomalous our (America’s) religiosity is in the world. A Gallup report issued on Tuesday underscored just how out of line we are.”

Given Blow’s leftwing politics and his point was that all rich countries except for the United States are secular and that all poor countries are religious, he was obviously not making this point in order to celebrate America’s “anomalous” religiosity.

He should have. America’s anomalous religiosity is very much worth celebrating — not because it leads to affluence, but because it is indispensible to liberty. Had Blow made a liberty chart rather than an affluence chart, he might have noted that the freest country in the world — for 234 years — the United States of America, has also been the most G0d-centered.

Yes, I know that the Islamic world has also been G0d-based and that it has not been free. But that is because Allah is not regarded as the source of liberty, as the America’s Judeo-Christian G0d has been, but as the object of submission (“Islam” means “submission”).

COULD GOD REALLY LOVE ME?

By Grant Phillips

Are you convinced that a Holy God could never love you? Many are.

To the contrary, some people ride high on the waves of egotism, either believing there is no God or they do not need God in their lives. These unfortunate souls seem to think their works, their education, their position in the community and/or church, and various other excuses make them a gift to God. This is not only sad, but tragic, because they can never know God until they see themselves as God sees them.

Going back to the other end of the spectrum, others are just the opposite. They are so down on themselves, they think God could never care about them. However, these dear folks are closer to being helped spiritually, than the proud mentioned earlier. Why? Because they see themselves as God sees us all, apart from His Son Jesus. “As it is written, (more…)

‘Flag of Islam’ Over the White House Vow

On last night’s “O’Reilly Factor,” host Bill O’Reilly lambasted ABC TV host Christiane Amanpour regarding her handling of recent comments by a British Muslim cleric that Islam will “conquer” America.

“The liberal media … is buying into the gentile Islam,” he told guest Charles Krauthammer. “The media in America is close to [becoming] the media in Europe, which as you know is a very significant factor in this kind of situation.”

On Sunday, Muslim cleric Anjem Choudary claimed that Sharia law will one day rule the East and West and “the flag of Islam will fly over the White House.” (See video below.)

“That is a provocative statement that Miss Amanpour certainly didn’t challenge the way she should have,” O’Reilly said. “That’s what gets me about ABC news. … They let this stuff go and I don’t think they should”:

Deception is all around us.  A wolf in sheep’s clothes, we must remain watchful to make sure we and those we love are not misled…  Christ warned us that in the last days, deception would increase, the church would begin to fall away, and many would follow false christs.  Satan is working overtime to make these come to pass by infiltrating Christian organizations…be watchful.  Stand firm on the Truth, God’s Word, the Bible.

Matthew 24:4-5 (NIV) – “4Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.”

‘Christian’ media swings left

David Neff is editor-in-chief for Christianity Today. The magazine is still considered to be mainstream and representative of evangelicals. It was founded when Ike was president, and it is amazing how many Christians consider CT to be their friend. In reality, it is center-left and fairly contemptuous of the issues conservative Christians hold dear.

Witness Neff’s recent Facebook post, in which he cites a Wall St. Journal piece about the Ground Zero mosque. Neff said that “all the negative attention” the mosque project has received has in fact helped amass a war chest for the building of the mosque. Again, Neff was citing the WSJ article, but one wonders why he seems to aim a weird web of blame at Americans who find the mosque both offensive and potentially dangerous.

Of course, the editorial staff at CT has a long history of center-left stances.

Christianity a ‘Faded Memory’ for Most Young Britons

LONDON – Most young people in Britain consider Christianity irrelevant to their lives but they are not as hostile towards religion as their parents’ generation, researchers in the Church of England have found.

The researchers surveyed 300 young people from Generation Y – those born after 1982 – who had attended a Christian youth or community project. The five-year study looked at their faith in relation to Christianity and the impact of Christian youth and community work on their faith development.

It found that young people were more likely to put their faith in friends, their family or themselves than in God.

In Holy Land, Christians a community in decline

BEIT SAHOUR, West Bank (Reuters) – In the land where Jesus lived, Christians say their dwindling numbers are turning churches from places of worship into museums.

Tourists visit the site of the Baptism at the holy land of Jordan river May 6, 2009. (REUTERS/Jamal Saidi/Files)

And when Christian pilgrims come from all over the world to visit the places of Christ’s birth, death and resurrection, they find them divided by a concrete wall.

Members of the Abu al-Zulaf family, Palestinian Christians, have left the hills and olive groves of their village near Bethlehem for Sweden and the United States, seeking a better life than that on offer in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Ayman Abu al-Zulaf, 41, moved to France in 1998. But he returned to Beit Sahour, the village where he was born, a year later. “I needed to be here, not in France,” he said. “Without Christians, the Holy Land, the land of Jesus, has no value.”

That’s his message to Christian pilgrims he meets through his work as a tour guide. “Christians have a very major mission here in Palestine. We are the bridge to the West,” he said.

Today, Christians make up just 1 percent of the mainly Muslim population of the Palestinian territories, said Hanna Eissa, who is in charge of Christian affairs in the Palestinian Authority’s religious affairs ministry.

More information released on the Ground Zero mosque, unusual architecture to say the least…

_________________________________________________________________

Ground Zero mosque likened to Superman’s HQ

Futuristic designs for an Islamic centre and mosque near the site of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York have been unveiled to widespread expert acclaim.

The sketches showed a 16-storey building wrapped in a honeycomb of abstract shapes.

The building was compared by some to the Fortress of Solitude, the crystalline headquarters of Superman depicted in comic books.

Others suggested that some of the shapes resembled the Jewish symbol of the Star of David. The company behind the development pointed out that the hexagram is also used in Islam, as the Seal of Solomon, as well as in Christianity and other religions.

Sharif El-Gamal, the developer, said: “We want to have a marriage between Islamic architecture and New York City. We want to do something that is green and cool.”

The proposed Islamic centre, two blocks from the site of the World Trade Centre attacks, has created widespread controversy in the United States.

The designs suggest it will have four floors taken up by a sports, fitness and swimming centre.

There will also be a child care centre, a restaurant, culinary school, art studios, exhibition space and auditorium.

The prayer space for Muslims will be on two levels in the basement, and the 12th floor will have a 9/11 memorial and sanctuary open to people of all faiths.

We must be very careful what we support these days, there is much deception and many ‘false christs'”, just as Jesus Christ predicted.  We need to anchor ourselves in His Word and make sure we are watchful of our church and its proclaimed beliefs.  Those that are not watchful, risk being led astray…

Matthew 24:4-8 (NIV) – “4Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,[a]‘ and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.”

Interfaith Group Urges U.S. To Press For Middle East Agreement

(RNS) A broad coalition of U.S. Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders has backed the Obama administration’s efforts to broker peace between Israel and Palestinians.

Members of the National Interreligious Leadership Initiative for Peace in the Middle East met Wednesday (Sept. 29) with National Security Advisor Gen. James Jones and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. The coalition called for “active, fair and firm U.S. leadership for Arab-Israeli-Palestinian peace.”

“We believe that concerted, sustained U.S. leadership for peace is essential,” the coalition said. “And we know that time is not on the side of peace, that delay is not an option.”

The group has expressed faith in a two-state solution since forming in 2003. Its latest statement was signed by 15 Christian leaders representing Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, evangelical and mainline Protestant denominations; six rabbis and a professor from Judaism’s Reform and Reconstructionist movements; and six Muslims representing the Islamic Society of North America and other groups.

“One of the biggest obstacles to peace in the Middle East is cynicism,” said Bishop Howard Hubbard, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on International Justice and Peace.

“As people of faith, we must remember that with God all things are possible. The human spirit can overcome even the longest and most violent of conflicts.”

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE CHURCH?

By Grant Phillips

I noticed this morning in one of the local papers the following activities scheduled this week-end for some of the local churches:

One local church is offering an Internet safety program presentation. The Internet can be very helpful with education, purchasing, news and other ways, but it is also like walking through a mine field. One needs to be careful. Therefore, this is probably a good thing to do, even within the church scenario. There are many ways our children can be harmed via the Internet, and parents need to know what to do to protect their children and themselves.

Another local church will sponsor “Photography as a Prayer Workshop”, where they will “define prayer, basic photographic principles, and think together about the spiritual practices of photography”. Now I’m getting somewhat apprehensive. Understood, I don’t know where they are going with this, but I’m having to stretch my mind to comprehend any relationship between prayer and basic photographic principles. I also cannot seem to connect with the “spiritual practices of photography”, although I’m trying to keep an open mind.

Two churches are having a bean supper. All I will say here is that church folk sure do like to eat.

Interesting study, the numbers are closer than the title leads you to believe, and I was surprised how much weight they put on knowing details about other religions or history of the church verses Bible teachings.  I was also surprised on the results of the bread and wine question.  It would be interesting to see all of the questions, and if there is any past polls that would show you a trend line…even though we know how it is trending.  The Bible tells us.

Survey: Americans don’t know much about religion

A new survey of Americans’ knowledge of religion found that atheists, agnostics, Jews and Mormons outperformed Protestants and Roman Catholics in answering questions about major religions, while many respondents could not correctly give the most basic tenets of their own faiths.

Forty-five percent of Roman Catholics who participated in the study didn’t know that, according to church teaching, the bread and wine used in Holy Communion is not just a symbol, but becomes the body and blood of Christ.

More than half of Protestants could not identify Martin Luther as the person who inspired the Protestant Reformation. And about four in 10 Jews did not know that Maimonides, one of the greatest rabbis and intellectuals in history, was Jewish.

I don’t understand why more ministers and churches talk about prophecy.

It is so inspiring and reassuring that we believe in the One True God.

It affirms our faith and makes us stronger.

There is loads of information given as well as very good context.

I especially like the end of the 3rd and 4th segment.  When he talks about the fiery furnace from Daniel as a picture of end times prophecy and also what the true test of belief in True Christ is that Jesus is God.

This is outrageous.  This is not of God, this is of the evil one.

How far have we, as the church, fallen that we would allow ourselves to be used for propaganda.

Check out these quotes from Obama and the full story below…

“Get out there and spread the word,” the president encouraged religious leaders on the call. Politico reports that Obama also advised those listening to treat the new law as settled fact and use their perches of power to convey that message to congregants and friends.

“The debate in Washington is over,” he said, and called on the leaders to be “important validators and trusted resources,” regarding the law.

With approval ratings plummeting and support for the new health care law waning, the president is scrambling for ways to sell his health care overhaul. Possibly looking for a miracle, he’s turning to church leaders who preach about such events to deliver one.

“Obama, alongside other top administration officials, beseeched thousands of faith-based and community organizations to preach the gospel on new insurance reforms, chiefly the Patients’ Bill of Rights.” That’s how Politico describes a conference call that featured the president on Tuesday.
