Great commentary on our one source of Truth in this fallen world.  Grant does an excellent job asking the question and laying out the case.

The only thing I would add, is that if you are new in your faith or just starting to look into this “Christian” thing.  As Grant (and Paul) says the whole Bible is valuable for teaching & instruction but I would suggest you start with the Gospel of John (John), then move to Romans, followed by Matthew.  It will get you started in a very manageable way on your path to Salvation and/or a stronger faith based on Truth!

Is The Bible True Or Not? :: By Grant Phillips

Why is it so hard for some people to believe the Bible? The Bible is the Word of God delivered to mankind through men set apart by God to deliver His message. The Spirit of God spoke through these writers, using their own personalities, to deliver the divine message to mankind. Yet, so many people from all walks of life simply cannot believe its words are from God, but instead consider it to be composed of the opinions of the writers, fables and fairy tales. Few today consider the Bible, in its entirety to be the absolute inerrant (incapable of being wrong) Word from Almighty God (in the original languages). God informs mankind through the apostle Paul:

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16) [“Inspired” means literally “God-breathed.” Every word comes from God.]

“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:12-16)

How does the true Christian “have the mind of Christ?” The true Christian has “the mind of Christ” by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit within us. He/she also “has the mind of Christ” in the Bible we hold in our hands. To the unbeliever it is just a book, but to the believer it is a book that contains the words of God.

Very interesting video, worth the look.  It always amazes me (it shouldn’t) that claims against God’s word and the Biblical world view always seem to be dis-proven once the truth surfaces through solid research, archeological finds, or scientific discoveries.

In Romans 10 Paul lays out how salvation is open to all, Jew and Gentile.  He writes:

“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” – Romans 10:4-5

What he is saying is now it is not about works or how closely to a “T” you follow the law.  But that it is through God’s gift of grace through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.  It is really that simple, and yet a hard step for some of us.

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9

It really brings into focus why prophecy is so important, it all points back to Jesus and our salvation as sinners.  Time is short.

In Pursuit of Truth

By Gene Lawley

Jesus said, in John 8:32, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Free from what? If freedom is the goal, then bondage is what must be overcome, and if the truth would set us free, then a lie holds us in bondage. There seems to be no one-sided issues out there—it’s yes or no, right or wrong, good or bad, up or down, front or back, etc. Some wise person figured it out—for every action there is a responding reaction.

The truth has greater authority than a lie, therefore it can break the hold of bondage and set a person free. Therefore, when Jesus answered the devil’s temptations with quoted Scripture (i.e. “it is written”), He was also showing believers how to combat the lies of the enemy—Satan. Jesus made the astounding claim, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but by Me” (John 14:6) yet many otherwise intelligent people deny emphatically that it could be so.

I submit that if someone could produce viable evidence that their alternate provider of salvation has died on a cross in fulfillment of those foreshadowing blood sacrifices recorded in the pages of the Old Testament, then show us the nail marks in his hands and we perhaps could be swayed toward that possibility! There is not even a shred of a possibility for that to happen. The only alternatives ever produced are merely guidelines for human effort. Cain saw that would not work, even at the very beginning of humanity!

John wrote in his first epistle, “…no lie is of the truth” (1 John 2:20), that is, the truth cannot have any shadow of doubt in it. That is why the Ten Commandments are not just ten suggestions, and why Jesus affirmed God’s edict in His answer to the devil’s first temptation, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

In that John 8 passage, Jesus began at verse 31, saying, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed,” and in verse 36, He adds, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” It is the lie of Satan that opposes the truth, with deception continually repeated over the centuries to bring people into bondage to sin through lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life. Because the truth of Jesus Christ, claimed by a person, Paul could write in Romans 6:14, “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”

In the pursuit of the truth of God, one must come to realize a very basic starting point. Recently I posted a three-part article on the Beatitudes from Matthew 5, and that first Beatitude nails it down pretty tightly.  One must realize he is spiritually in deep poverty and in great need of God’s mercy and grace. To the religious scribes and Pharisees in Jerusalem, Jesus said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance” (Mark 2:17). Jesus was seen eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners, and they were critical of Him for it. I suspect that Jesus may have been giving them a back-end message in saying that, for He knew those self-righteous hypocrites needed repentance as much as did those with Him.

Considering Some Key Principles

One of my uncles once was frustrated about the structure of the Bible (he was not a born-again believer). He complained that it would have made more sense to organize it like an encyclopedia, with everything about a topic in its own section. I admit that he had a point, but the (more…)

This is a pretty stark contrast drawn below.

I am always amazed at how people still see him as a Christian.  None of his actions or words would say he is.

Christ told us in Matthew, multiple times, that we should judge a person by their “fruit”, what they produce, do, say, and support.

Maybe it is because so many of “us” Christians are “of this world” more than “chosen out of this world” so we don’t want to condemn his beliefs and actions because it will point to our own actions as well.  But you can’t even go that far for our commander-in-chief because he is down right hostile toward Christians, true Christians that follow God’s word and believe in the whole Bible as inerrant.  Can you name one thing he has ever done to help God’s church?  I can’t.

I was at a Prophecy conference last weekend and one of the speakers stated something that really struck me, but seems so obvious now.

He asked the question, “Are you getting tired of saying to yourself, why don’t these people see what is happening?  Their actions or responses do not make any sense”  And he was right, we are all tired of saying it.  He went on to say, it is the strong delusion that God promised he would give non-believers over to in the last days, just like the days of Noah and Lot. We are watching it unfold.  Nothing makes sense anymore, our society and culture calls evil, good and good, evil.

So next time you ask yourself. “They can’t be that blind or stupid?” when something you think is common sense does not strike them as so.  Remember the times.  It is time that we all straighten up, and boldly proclaim God’s word, the Gospel, as He is our only hope, and the only hope for those that are lost.

Another point to ponder that I gleaned from the conference: If 100% of the prophecies to date have come true and have been fulfilled literally, what makes us think that the ones yet to come will not be fulfilled in the exact same manner, 100% and literally.

As Peter said, God gave us the more sure word of prophecy.  It’s study strengths our faith.

In his own words: Barack Obama on Islam and Christianity

from the therightscoop.com

An interesting batch of quotes put together and sourced by Now the End Begins that create a very distinct picture of our president that will likely surprise only a few of you, if that many. (h/t: The American Thinker)

OBAMA ON ISLAM:

1. “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam”

2. “The sweetest sound I know is the Muslim call to prayer”

3. “We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world — including in my own country.”

4. “As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam.”

5. “Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance.”

6. “Islam has always been part of America”

7. “we will encourage more Americans to study in Muslim communities”

8. “These rituals remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings.”

9. “America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles of justice and progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.”

10. “I made it clear that America is not – and will never be – at war with Islam.”

11. “Islam is not part of the problem in combating violent extremism – it is an important part of promoting peace.”

12. “So I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed”

13. “In ancient times and in our times, Muslim communities have been at the forefront of innovation and education.”

14. “Throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.”

15. “Ramadan is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity and racial equality”

16. “The Holy Koran tells us, ‘O mankind! We have created you male and a female; and we have made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another.’”

17. “I look forward to hosting an Iftar dinner celebrating Ramadan here at the White House later this week, and wish you a blessed month.”

18. “We’ve seen those results in generations of Muslim immigrants – farmers and factory workers, helping to lay the railroads and build our cities, the Muslim innovators who helped build some of our highest skyscrapers and who helped unlock the secrets of our universe.”

19. “That experience guides my conviction that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn’t. And I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.”

20. “I also know that Islam has always been a part of America’s story.”

OBAMA ON CHRISTIANITY:

1. “Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation”

2. “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation.”

3. “Which passages of scripture should guide our public policy?  Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is OK and that eating shellfish is an abomination?  Or we could go with Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith?”

4. “Even those who claim the Bible’s inerrancy make distinctions between Scriptural edicts, sensing that some passages – the Ten Commandments, say, or a belief in Christ’s divinity – are central to Christian faith, while others are more culturally specific and may be modified to accommodate modern life.”

5. “The American people intuitively understand this, which is why the majority of Catholics practice birth control and some of those opposed to gay marriage nevertheless are opposed to a Constitutional amendment to ban it. Religious leadership need not accept such wisdom in counseling their flocks, but they should recognize this wisdom in their politics.”

6. From Obama’s book, The Audacity of Hope: “I am not willing to have the state deny American citizens a civil union that confers equivalent rights on such basic matters as hospital visitation or health insurance coverage simply because the people they love are of the same sex—nor am I willing to accept a reading of the Bible that considers an obscure line in Romans to be more defining of Christianity than the Sermon on the Mount.”

7. Obama’s response when asked what his definition of sin is: “Being out of alignment with my values.”

8. “If all it took was someone proclaiming I believe Jesus Christ and that he died for my sins, and that was all there was to it, people wouldn’t have to keep coming to church, would they.”

9. “This is something that I’m sure I’d have serious debates with my fellow Christians about. I think that the difficult thing about any religion, including Christianity, is that at some level there is a call to evangelize and prostelytize. There’s the belief, certainly in some quarters, that people haven’t embraced Jesus Christ as their personal savior that they’re going to hell.”

10. “I find it hard to believe that my God would consign four-fifths of the world to hell.  I can’t imagine that my God would allow some little Hindu kid in India who never interacts with the Christian faith to somehow burn for all eternity.  That’s just not part of my religious makeup.”

11. “I don’t presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die. But I feel very strongly that whether the reward is in the here and now or in the hereafter, the aligning myself to my faith and my values is a good thing.”

12. “I’ve said this before, and I know this raises questions in the minds of some evangelicals. I do not believe that my mother, who never formally embraced Christianity as far as I know … I do not believe she went to hell.”

13. “Those opposed to abortion cannot simply invoke God’s will–they have to explain why abortion violates some principle that is accessible to people of all faiths.”

14. On his support for civil unions for gay couples: “If people find that controversial then I would just refer them to the Sermon on the Mount.”

15. “You got into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

16. “In our household, the Bible, the Koran and the Bhagavad Gita sat on the shelf alongside books of Greek and Norse and African mythology”

17. “On Easter or Christmas Day, my mother might drag me to church, just as she dragged me to the Buddhist temple, the Chinese New Year celebration, the Shinto shrine, and ancient Hawaiian burial sites.”

18. “We have Jews, Muslims, Hindus, atheists, agnostics, Buddhists, and their own path to grace is one that we have to revere and respect as much as our own”

19. “All of us have a responsibility to work for the day when the mothers of Israelis and Palestinians can see their children grow up without fear; when the Holy Land of the three great faiths is the place of peace that God intended it to be; when Jerusalem is a secure and lasting home for Jews and Christians and Muslims, and a place for all of the children of Abraham to mingle peacefully together as in the story of Isra— (applause) — as in the story of Isra, when Moses, Jesus, and Mohammed, peace be upon them, joined in prayer.  (Applause.)”

20. “I believe that there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people.”

“Jesus Christ was the most perfect being to ever walk this planet and he was persecuted and nailed to the cross, so please don’t be surprised when we get a little static.”
– Phil Robertson, speaking at his church Sunday.

The Daily Mail this evening posted an exclusive story regarding remarks made by Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson to his Bible study group this morning at his home church in West Monroe, Louisiana.

At the conclusion of the Bible study, Robertson reportedly stated “I will not give or back off from my path because you conquered death, Father, so we are not worried about all the repercussions.”

During his talk to the group, he is quoted as saying (h/t The Lid):

‘I have been immoral, drunk, high. I ran with the wicked people for 28 years and I have run with the Jesus people since and the contrast is astounding.

‘I tell people, “You are a sinner, we all are. Do you want to hear my story before I give you the bottom line on your story?”

‘We murder each other and we steal from one another, sex and immorality goes ballistic. All the diseases that just so happen to follow sexual mischief… boy there are some microbes running around now.

‘Sexual sins are numerous and many, I have a few myself. So what is your safest course of action? If you’re a man, find yourself a woman, marry them and keep your sex right there.

‘You can have fun, but one thing is for sure, as long as you are both healthy in the first place, you are not going to catch some debilitating illness, there is safety there.

‘Commonsense says we are not going to procreate the human race unless we have a man and a woman. From the beginning Jesus said, “It is a man and a woman.” Adam was made and Eve was made for this reason. They left their fathers and mothers and be united to become one flesh, that’s what marriage is all about.

‘But we looked at it and said it was an outdated stereotype. When you look back at the human race, the sins have always been the same: We get high, we get drunk, we get laid, we steal and kill.

‘Has this changed at all from the time God burnt up whole cities because their every thought was evil?’

Robertson also added: “Jesus Christ was the most perfect being to ever walk this planet and he was persecuted and nailed to the cross, so please don’t be surprised when we get a little static.”

You can read more of Robertson’s remarks here.

It is just insane how far we have let ourselves be dragged away from the truth.

This is a secular example but the same concept is being used by Satan in all his dealings with us.

If you have been following the news at all, especially the MSM, you undoubtedly have heard about the embattled Sandra Fluke.

I bring this up simply as the latest example of how deception is so prevalent in the world today.  How many times over the last 3-4 years have we been presented a story under one premise and yet eventually with the most minimal amount of digging, it turns out to be the exact opposite situation or at very least something very different from the premise originally sold: basically a Lie.

This used to be a big deal (media field day) but now a days we have gotten so use to it that there is no outrage, just a shrug of the shoulders and some muttering under your breath and we move on.  Satan and the Media know this.

How many times is that happening each day to you?  Is it happening more this month than last?  Or have you just stopped tuning in?

I would propose the deception is the new normal these days.  The exception is the truth and it shines so bright you can’t look directly at it.  Could this be God’s plan?  Christ told us we were the light of the world and that we should not hide our light.  Is it not true that a light shines brighter on a dark day, or at the midnight hour?

How bright would our light (the Truth of God’s Word) shine if we were bold enough to stand up and let it shine?  Something to think about and pray about.

How Bold are we?  How dark is our world? How dark is it around us?

Maranatha!

God Bless!
