Wow, what a great article and reminder for those of us that are wading into the muck as watchmen.  The first paragraph is so loaded with the concise truth.  And it gets even better from there…

A casual observation of the news headlines any day of the week can cause a  person to feel overwhelmed. It seems as if “everything” is coming at us from every direction at the same time. As a Christian, we are to be ever-watchful; putting our faith and trust in the Lord. The times in which we live are evil and wicked. The changes in our society are enough to not only cause us to feel overwhelmed, but also surrounded and helpless at times.

A verse from Proverbs was also quoted later on by Lea that really has had a profound effect on my over the last few months.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5.

It is the next verse that really solidifies my comfort with letting go of my own will.  It is the promise that God gives us if we take the leap of faith and hand over control.

“Seek His will in all you do and He will show you which path to take.” – Proverbs 3:6

Maranatha, Lord come quickly!

Depending Upon Ourselves

Lea Sylvester

A casual observation of the news headlines any day of the week can cause a  person to feel overwhelmed. It seems as if “everything” is coming at us from every direction at the same time. As a Christian, we are to be ever-watchful; putting our faith and trust in the Lord. The times in which we live are evil and wicked. The changes in our society are enough to not only cause us to feel overwhelmed, but also surrounded and helpless at times.

Never fear! We have the blessed assurance that come what may, we need only look to our Lord. If we are absorbed with every news story (which all seem to be “bad” or “worse” or “even worse than we imagined”) that comes across the news in whatever form we might receive it, are we focusing on God? Of course, we are not to put our heads in the sand and act as if nothing is wrong. Everything seems to be wrong!  But, these are the times which will separate the “men from the boys,”so to speak.

To begin with, perhaps we need to be reminded that we were not given the spirit of fear. II Timothy 1:7 tells us, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” We have all the “tools” we need in order to keep our proper perspective of this life.

This scripture tells us that instead of fearing [anything], we have other ways to deal with situations. We look at anything (more…)

Great observation by Terry in his Nearing Midnight Column this week.  I have been (and will be) posting a lot of articles about Israel recently and there is a reason.

Matthew 24:31-33

New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.

Israel is the Fig Tree.  It is the sign Christ told us to look for.  As soon as we see events occur surrounding Israel we will know the season, the quarter or the month that we are in.  We will not (can not) know the day or the hour but we will know the season according to Jesus Himself.  We are to be watching.  The world is oblivious as well as most of those around us.  It is not because they could not know, but I think at this point, it is mostly because they do not want to know and that makes my heart heavy.  We are to busy chasing after the things of this world, to worry about the next.

Prophetic beliefs are not tied to salvation.  It is separate and a gift from God.  So I am sure many that are asleep may be saved but what a disservice it does to Christ Church, His bride, to not be awake and eagerly anticipating His return for us.  We are all, myself included, way to attached to this world.  We need to live in this world but not be of this world.

Israel should be a sign for us to wake up and look up as our redemption draws nigh…

Maranatha, Lord come quickly!

Israel’s Prophetic Positioning

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is, amazingly, being viewed as a moderate in the politically right-oriented Likud party these days. This fact shouldn’t go without considerable notice by those who look at Bible prophecy from the futurist viewpoint. Eschatologically speaking, this otherwise strange development as of late makes sense. Here’s what I mean.

Israel must somehow–for now–be kept in the world diplomatic loop. The Jewish state cannot afford to be totally marginalized to the point the nation has no one with whom to negotiate, or at least to talk with on the negotiating front. At the same time, elements within the present make-up of the Knesset and the government as a whole have reached the point they, in order to show resolve, have to adhere to a hard-line approach to Israel’s enemies, who pressure them to give in at every point of the international community’s demands. This resolve translates into intransigence in the thinking of most Israel-hating diplomats of the U.N.–i.e, Israel’s resolve is propagandized by diplomats and the world’s mainstream journalists as deliberately disruptive stubbornness in doing harm to the peace process.

Netanyahu currently wears his moderate, right-winger, actor’s mask effectively. This is to keep the channels open in dealing (more…)

After reading the article below I couldn’t help but reflect on my own feelings.  Being a watchman and sifting through all of the garage of this lost world does add a little edge to your happiness.  It is not a depression or lost of faith but a sadness for what we the human race has become and how many of us will not be saved due to our pride and stubbornness.

Once you have detached from this world, it is no longer home, you do tend to not be as joyful of the things of this world.  This is a good thing but something I have struggled with while living in this world but not being part of it.  It is amazing how quickly “this world” pushes you aside as soon as you disconnect, but once you do you feel the peace in your heart and soul, you gripped fist loosens, opens and turns palms up.  It is how we were meant to hold the things/plans of this world, while longing for the next.

Maranatha – Come quickly Lord!

Blessed? Very! Happy? Ehhhh, Maybe Not So Much!

By Sandee Lloyd

I hear people talk about joy, and happiness, and contentment, as if they were interchangeable, and for the “true Christian”, compulsory. The sermon was on that subject at church today. It was a good sermon. The passage was Psalm 1: 1-3. The message was this: blessed/happy is the man who is separated from the world (Walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, standeth not in the way of sinners, and sitteth not in the seat of the scornful). Blessed/happy is the man that is Saturated in the Word (meditating on the Lord’s “preserved and purified” Word –Ps. 12:6-7– day and night, delighting in it), and Blessed/Happy is the man who is Situated in the Faith (like a tree planted by the rivers of water, bringing forth fruit in due season, not withering, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper). But I still, for the life of me, do not see how this equates to never-ending happiness in this lifetime. Technically the word “blessed” is interchangeable with the word “happy”, but happy is subjective and qualitative, while blessed, is definitive. I don’t even think “joyful” and “happy” are synonymous, although they might be considered degrees of the one state, but now I’m splitting hairs.

It is hard for me to be “ever- joyful”, being a Watchman on the wall, knowing what I know about the conditions in our world and in our nation, and seeing what I see in Scripture, as to where it is all headed. I am not discouraged or worried or despondent, rather I am accepting of what is, and very expectant of “what shall be”. It’s the “in-between now and then”, that is growing protracted and wearisome!!! Perhaps that is a mere case of “A hope deferred makes a heart sick”. The more real the prospect of Heaven becomes, the less “happy” I am here.

One of the things I have been praying for understanding of, is the concept of watchmen.  It is mentioned many times in the Bible, both old and new testament.  It was a very important role in the times of the Bible, with significant responsibilities.  Jesus himself used the word watchmen and also repeatedly mentioned: to be watchful, watch.

What I have been lead to is Ezekiel.  We that are awake and aware of the signs have a greater responsibility.

Frank had felt called to take some time away to pray and spend with the Lord.

He posted this today and I felt it was well worth sharing here.

The Lord has made me a watchmen for His people and Jesus knows I am pouring out my heart to Him for you all. Sept. 17, 2010

1″The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, speak to your countrymen and say to them: ‘When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman, 3 and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people, 4 then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not take warning and the sword comes and takes his life, his blood will be on his own head.”  Ezekiel 33:1-4

7 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.”
