PM: Recognition of Jewish state only sign of peace readiness

Speaking at a conference on the future of the Jewish people, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Friday that “only when our partners recognize the State of Israel as a Jewish state they will be ready for peace.”

The prime minister said this was his conclusion “after we left Gaza and had 12,000 rockets fired on us.” He noted that “the only peace which will survive is one that can be defended.” (Yair Altman)

More tension around the peace process.   Last week I posted an article that the PA was planning to ask the UN to proclaim the PA an independent state outside the peace process, this looks like the response to both sides.  It is amazing to watch all of this unfold and for little Israel to be the central focus of the world.  Especially with everything else going on, just think about it…

UN Message on Negotiations was a Veiled Warning to PA

A diplomatic United Nations warning, interpreted by pro-Arab media as aimed at Israel, also was a veiled message to the Palestinian Authority not to try to ask the international body to declare the PA as a country.

Assistant Secretary-General Oscar Fernandez-Taranco told the UN Security Council on Monday that Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon believes “if the door to peace closes it will be very hard to open.”  However Taranco added—in statement that was not as widely quoted—that “there is no alternative to a negotiated settlement resulting in the creation of an independent and viable” PA state.

Arabs may ask UN to recognize Palestinian state

Egyptian FM says if West Bank settlement building continues, “the Arab League will study some other option aside from the peace process.”

BRUSSELS — Arab nations may seek UN recognition of a Palestinian state if Israel continues to build settlements in the West Bank, Egypt’s foreign minister said Friday.

Ahmed Aboul Gheit said an Arab League request to the UN may come next month.

“If Israel does not respect the settlements freeze,” Gheit said, “the Arab League will study some other option aside from the peace process such as going to the United Nations and ask for the recognition of the Palestinian state.”

It is unsettling to see the US as encouraged by PA demands.  We are on the wrong side of the conflict involving God’s chosen people.  It is most likely part of his plan and the reason we are declining as an economy.  Have we given up God’s blessing as a nation?  Maybe.

US State Dept. encouraged by PA borders proposal

Crowley says “right conversation for 2 sides” after PLO chief quoted as saying willing to recognize Israel if US, Israel recognize pre-1967 lines.

US State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley responded on Wednesday night to senior PLO official, Yasser Abed Rabbo’s, proposal that the US administration and Israeli government recognize the pre-1967 lines as the borders of a future Palestinian state, saying that it “represents the interest in the parties in continuing this effort.”

Crowley responding to questions at a daily press conference said “this is exactly the right conversation that the Israelis and Palestinians need to have to be exchanging ideas on how to advance this process to a successful conclusion.”

Palestinians demand Israel present map of its borders

“If map is based on 1967 lines, then PA will recognize Israel by whatever name it wants,” PLO chief Abed Rabbo quoted as saying.

A Palestinian official demanded a map of Israel’s borders on Wednesday in response to a US State Department statement urging the Palestinians to extend a counter-proposal to Israel’s demand that they recognize it as a Jewish state.

The State Department Tuesday urged the sides to come to a compromise and called for Palestinians to make clear what would be acceptable to them in lieu of a declaration that Israel is a Jewish state.

Lieberman: ‘We will not be victims of appeasement’

FM tells French and Spanish FMs to solve European problems before coming to solve Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, fresh off what was widely viewed as his “undiplomatic” address to the UN General Assembly last month, told his visiting Spanish and French counterparts on Sunday that before coming to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, they should concentrate on the problems in their own backyard.

“I don’t expect you to solve the problems of the world, but I certainly expect that before you come here to teach us how to solve conflicts, you will deal with the problems in Europe and solve those conflicts,” Lieberman told French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos, who arrived on Sunday for a day of talks in Israel, followed by a day of talks in the Palestinian Authority.

A bill requiring a national referendum before relinquishing land in Jerusalem and the Golan Heights passed during a special meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Legislation on Monday, laying the groundwork for it to become law within weeks.

According to the spokesman of the committee, among those who voted in favor of the bill were Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Minister Yuli Edelstein, Culture and Sport Minister Limor Livnat, and Science and Technology Minister Daniel Hershkowitz, with Welfare and Social Services Minister Isaac Herzog and Intelligence and Atomic Affairs Minister Dan Meridor voting against it.

France: UN creation of Palestinian state possible

The option of the UN Security Council creating a Palestinian state cannot be ruled out, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has said in a recently published interview.

But he got short shrift from Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman during a meeting Sunday.

Kouchner told the Palestinian newspaper Al-Ayyam that France preferred a two-state solution to be negotiated with Israel, but added that appealing to the Security Council to resolve the conflict remained a possibility.

“We want to be able to soon welcome the state of Palestine to the United Nations. This is the hope and the desire of the international community, and the sooner that can happen the better,” he said.

France May Recognize Unilateral PA Country

France has threatened to recognize a unilateral declaration of statehood by the Palestinian Authority if final status talks with Israel are “delayed.”

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner was quoted Sunday in an interview with the Arabic-language newspaper al-Ayyam as saying his government would not rule out the possibility of recognizing the unilateral establishment of a new PA country.

Kouchner, who himself is Jewish, said France would consider the option if PA talks with Israel were to suffer from “delays,” although Paris preferred the two-state solution to be negotiated between the two entities.

‘Both sides must take steps for negotiations to continue’

US State Department responds to Netanyahu’s offer to extend building freeze in exchange for recognition of Israel as “Jewish State”; PA publicly rejects proposal that had been discussed quietly.

State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said that “both sides need to take steps if we are to see the necessary conditions for negotiations to continue,” while apparently sidestepping a response to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu‘s offer to extending the building freeze, the Washington Post reported on Tuesday.

Netanyahu had said that he would extend the freeze if the Palestinians recognize “the Jewish state as our nation-state,” in a speech to the Knesset on Monday.

Palestinians give U.S. one month to curb settlements

* Arab League to reconvene in one month over deadlock

* Alternatives include Palestine recognition, Abbas quitting

By Lamine Ghanmi

SIRTE, Libya, Oct 9 (Reuters) – The Palestinians, backed by Arab powers, said on Saturday they would give the United States one month to persuade Israel to halt the building of settlements in the West Bank or risk the collapse of peace talks.

The message, issued at an Arab League meeting in Libya, represented a reprieve for Washington as it tries to salvage 5-week-old talks stalled over Israel’s refusal to extend a settlement freeze on occupied land where Palestinians seek statehood.

Palestinian state within 2 months?

TEL AVIV – The White House is planning intensive Israeli-Palestinian talks that aim to create the borders of a future Palestinian state within two months, according to Palestinian Authority officials speaking to WND.

While such talks seem ambitious, the negotiations are timed around the possible acceptance by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of a two-month freeze-extension barring Jewish construction in the West Bank and eastern Jerusalem.

A PA source conceded the talks likely will not lead to an agreement within two months.

“The U.S. proposed intensive negotiations regarding borders, meaning in the coming two months borders will be clear and maybe even closed,” said the source. “It’s very ambitious and is a lot to expect.”

The U.S. called on Netanyahu to extend a freeze on settlement construction in the West Bank. As a U.S.-imposed precondition for negotiations, Netanyahu in late 2009 had agreed to a 10-month West Bank construction moratorium that expired at the end of last month.

More dire predictions if the peace talks fail, the pressure, just as God predicted, is squarely on Israel.  All nations are aligning against her and applying pressure to give concessions.  It is amazing to see God’s Word come to life.

It is obvious that God’s will is driving much of this as logic is lost.  By simply building in their own country, they are causing terror and violence?  Really?  Does that make sense?

Will we continue to have peace talks?  My guess is yes, I think this process will continue off and on until a completed plan is created.  It may then sit until the appointed time when the Antichrist will usher in “peace” via it’s signing.  I believe one of the speed bumps will be the Psalm 83 war, but none the less, it will be interesting to see what angle they use to continue them or if they really do stall.

Israel said the talks should continue.

Palestinians Back Abbas on Settlement Slowdown

RAMALLAH, West Bank — Dozens of senior Palestinians on Saturday backed President Mahmoud Abbas’ refusal to negotiate with Israel as long as it builds in West Bank settlements, dealing a new setback to troubled U.S. efforts to salvage peace talks.

Mideast officials fly to US as talks crisis looms
