Putin’s New ‘Fortress Russia’
Moscow is cozying up to China, supporting the Assad regime in Syria and ignoring the Iranian nuclear race. The Kremlin is hard at work to create a sphere of influence along its periphery and a “pole” in the multipolar world that would stand up to Washington.-Putin is implementing a “Fortress Russia” policy, which is based on repression at home and confrontation abroad. It is used to justify a $700 billion military buildup.

A place for Jews on the Temple Mount
The state of affairs on the Temple Mount is intolerable and untenable.-A way must be found to enable Jews to exercise their right to commune with their Maker, without further stoking hatred and intolerance. In fact, there is a simple and very practical solution to this predicament: build a synagogue on the Temple Mount where Jews would be free to pray as they wish.

“#UnBonJuif”: Twitter deluged with French antisemitism
Jewish and anti-racist organisations in France have threatened to sue dozens of Twitter users for posting antisemitic jokes and statements on the site using the hashtag #UnBonJuif (“a good Jew”). Many tweets mocked the Holocaust, said “a good Jew is a dead Jew” or contained other racist statements which are illegal under French law.-Antisemitic violence has grown in France by 45 per cent in the first eight months of 2012.

Small earthquake rattles western Nebraska
The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 3.6 earthquake happened at 11:21 p.m. Wednesday. It was centered about 18 miles northwest of Hyannis (heye-AN’-us). Grant County Sheriff Shawn Hebbert told The Omaha-World Herald (http://bit.ly/Rbu3zF ) that some people felt the quake, saying it woke them up. The sheriff says he didn’t feel a thing.

East China Sea tension: China conducts naval exercises
China is conducting naval exercises in the East China Sea, state media report, amid heightened tensions with Japan over islands both claim. The exercises are aimed at “sharpening response to emergencies in missions to safeguard territorial sovereignty”, state-run Xinhua news agency said. They involve 11 ships and eight aircraft, including vessels from marine surveillance and fisheries agencies.

EU leaders agree to one banking overseer
EU leaders agreed to create a single banking overseer for the eurozone that could aid ailing banks, but Germany and Britain balked at some details. The 27 EU heads of state and government agreed “on a political framework for the end of 2012 and a gradual implementation in 2013” of a new EU single supervisory mechanism, European Commission spokesman Olivier Bailly said after the first day of a two-day EU leaders’ summit on resolving the eurozone debt crisis. The commission is the EU’s executive body.

Moderate earthquake rattles Egypt, felt in Israel
5.0-magnitude quake comes two days ahead of Israel’s large-scale preparedness drill..

Assad launches new wave of air raids, pounding key Syrian town
Syrian regime warplanes launched a new wave of strikes Thursday on the northwestern town of Maaret al-Numan, seized by rebels last week, an AFP correspondent reported. Fighter jets began overflying and bombarding Maaret al-Numan, located on the main Damascus-Aleppo highway, in the early hours of the morning, targeting the strategic town and its periphery.

More Believe In Space Aliens Than In God According To U.K. Survey
More than 33 million U.K. citizens believe in extraterrestrial life, compared to just over 27 million — less than half the country — who believe in God. That’s the result of an online survey of 1,359 adults who were asked a variety of questions ranging from belief in alien visits to Earth, suspicions of UFO cover-ups, belief in extraterrestrials vs. belief in God, and whether or not men actually landed on the moon.

Gallup study: Only 3.4 percent of US adults are LGBT
A new Gallup survey, touted as the largest of its kind, estimates that 3.4 percent of American adults identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The findings, released Thursday, were based on interviews with more than 121,000 people. Gallup said it is the largest study ever aimed at calculating the nation’s LGBT population.

If you have not asked Christ into your life, the essential gospel is that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and that He was raised on the third day (1 Cor. 15:3-4).  Believing this is the only qualification for salvation.  We are sinners in need of a savior.  Jesus died for our sins, and to prove that His death was sufficient for us,  God raised Him from the dead on the third day. Believing in our heart that God raised Him from the dead is our assurance that He will raise us, too.
3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, (1 Cor. 15:3-4).

Interesting article…not just because of an unidentified helicopter but…

Did you know we still have forces involved in Mogadishu?

Did you know about the U.S. military’s Special Operations Command Africa?

Or the U.S. Africa Command?

Or that we have 7,100 African Union peacekeepers in Mogadishu?

We have so many “conflicts”, “wars”, areas that need peace keepers that its hard to keep track.

I am sure back in the simpler days of Jesus all of these fell under the collective title “wars and rumors of wars”.

Can you imagine him calling it the “oversea contingency operation and rumors of oversea contingency operation”?

No, I couldn’t either.  Luckily for us he kept it simple and said:

“6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.” – Matthew 24:6-8 (NIV)

Whose helicopter is it? Report of attack on Somali coast town leaves unanswered questions

MOGADISHU, Somalia –  MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — U.S. military officials and the European Union Naval Force denied on Monday that one of their helicopters was involved in an exchange of fire reported by residents of a coastal town in Somalia.

Residents of the coastal town of Merca, about 50 miles (70 kilometers) southwest of Mogadishu, said a military helicopter flew over the town on Sunday and that militants fired on it. Some residents said the helicopter fired back but caused no major damage.

But no one seems to know who the helicopter belongs to.

It’s not just wars and rumors of wars we are seeing and dealing with as a world but also a new kind of war.  Wars fought without uniforms and by unconventional means.  More signs, check out the stats below:

According to a Wikipedia list of wars, the past 500 years have witnessed an increase in the frequency of wars:

15th Century – 29 wars

16th Century – 59 wars

17th Century – 75 wars

18th Century – 69 wars

19th Century – 294 wars

20th Century – 278 wars (wars transformed to unconventional as well)

The first decade of the 21st Century has already witnessed 55 wars, putting humanity on course for 550  wars over the next one hundred year period.

Have these wars increased in intensity?  Yes.

Matthew 24:4-8 (NIV) – “4Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.”

In Moscow’s bleakest assessment of the situation on the Korean peninsula yet, Russian deputy foreign minister Alexei Borodavkin said tensions between the two countries were running at their highest and most dangerous level in a decade.

“Tensions on the Korean Peninsula could not be any higher. The only next step is a conflict,” he told foreign policy experts at a round table on the subject in Moscow.

More rumors of war and tension surrounding the middle east, Iran and the US.  It is interesting that the Iranian General used very similar statements.

Major General Gholamali Rashid said that under “current threatening conditions” when the US and Israel are “daily beating on their war drums,” it would not be an exaggeration to say that we are on the verge of a potential war in the [near] future.”

Iran on verge of potential US-led war

Speaking at the fifth conference on the study of Iran’s ‘sacred defense’ files, Deputy Commander of Iran’s Armed Forces of the Islamic Revolution’s Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Gholamali Rashid said that under “current threatening conditions” when the US and Israel are “daily beating on their war drums,” it would not be an exaggeration to say that we are on the verge of a potential war in the [near] future.”

Gen. Rashid’s remarks came following his description of threats made by the US and Israel against countries of the region after the “suspicious September 11 incident.”

Buried halfway through the story is an interesting bit of information.

Separately on Sunday, Iran’s state owned TV denied a report from the semi-official Fars news agency that Iranian forces had detained seven US troops trying to enter the country.

Fars had earlier said that: “Recently seven American troops were detained by Iranian guards in a south-eastern province of the country… Two Iranians accompanying the troops were also arrested”

There is an awful lot of positioning going on, you get the sense that something big might be on the horizon.  Why would you, as the media, bury a story like that?  Wouldn’t that be more of a headline?  Is this planted to stir the pot?  Interesting…
