If you have not asked Christ into your life, the essential gospel is that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and that He was raised on the third day (1 Cor. 15:3-4).  Believing this is the only qualification for salvation.  We are sinners in need of a savior.  Jesus died for our sins, and to prove that His death was sufficient for us,  God raised Him from the dead on the third day. Believing in our heart that God raised Him from the dead is our assurance that He will raise us, too.
3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, (1 Cor. 15:3-4).

Rubbish crisis making us ill, say Naples residents

Clutching her sickly 1-1/2-year-old son, Anna Langella says the family doctor had this simple prescription for her: move somewhere else.

Langella says her toddler often vomits and she blames this on the foul smell and toxic waste piling up in a rubbish dump near her house in Terzigno, on the outskirts of Naples where the streets are strewn with mounds of garbage.

“We have to keep the children inside, with the doors and windows shut, but even then it’s not enough,” she told Reuters. “It’s terrible. The state has abandoned us.”

France struggles to import gasoline amid strikes

PARIS (AP) – The French government says fuel shortages caused by strikes will go on for several more days.

The head of the national petroleum industry body says it is struggling to import fuel to make up for the shortfall.

Prime Minister Francois Fillon convened oil industry executives Friday to look at the country’s lagging fuel supplies, which have been disrupted by strikes at depots and oil terminals. Fillon said it will take “several more days” for a return to normal.

Environment Minister Jean-Louis Borloo said there was no question of rationing gas supplies.

The government has ordered oil companies to pool fuel to ensure gas stations are stocked, particularly for this weekend as nationwide school vacations begin.

PARIS (AP) – French riot police forced open a strategic fuel refinery Friday that had been a bastion of resistance to President Nicolas Sarkozy’s bid to raise the retirement age to 62, pushing striking workers aside with shields in a bid to end gasoline shortages.

The operation came as the French Senate prepared to vote on a pension reform at the heart of the unions’ anger, after the government short-circuited a protracted debate.

Sarkozy sets the heavy squad on the riots as demonstrations over French pension reforms continue for ninth day

  • Marseilles, Paris’s Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports affected
  • Passengers forced to carry their own luggage off planes
  • 3,000 of the country’s 12,000 petrol stations have run dry
  • Disputes costing country £100million a day

Armed with pump-action shotguns, sidearms and stun grenades the officers look like they belong in a war zone.

In fact they are elite French policemen who were deployed to the historic centre of Lyon yesterday to deal with rioting students.

President Nicolas Sarkozy took the extreme measure in the face of growing protests against an unpopular law aimed at increasing the retirement age from 60 to 62.

This was one of many flashpoints across the country yesterday amid growing public anger against raising the retirement age to 62.

In the town of Nanterre, north-west of Paris, officers also fired rubber bullets and tear gas at youths protesting outside their secondary schools.

Rioters rampage, protesters block French airports

PARIS (AP) – Workers opposed to a higher retirement age blocked access to airports in Paris and around the country on Wednesday as hooded youths smashed store windows amid clouds of tear gas outside the capital.

Riot police in black body armor forced striking workers away from blocked fuel depots in western France, restoring gasoline to areas where pumps were dry after weeks of protests over the government proposal raising the age from 60 to 62.

Riot officers in the Paris suburb of Nanterre and the southeastern city of Lyon sprayed tear gas but appeared unable to stop the violence.

Some of this can be somewhat extreme, but I think it brings up a few good points, on how so many seem to be “asleep” caught up in the day to day distractions of life.  It also gives some insight into what those outside of the US think about us, pretty extreme…take with a grain of salt.

Jesus said that there would be much apathy and violence during the end times.  That man’s heart would be hardened and brother would turn on brother, and child on parents…does that sound familiar or something you are seeing or feeling…

Will Americans Follow French Example Of Mass Civil Unrest?

Paul Joseph Watson
Infowars.com
October 19, 2010

How will Americans react when the government begins to impose the same austerity measures that are causing riots, street battles, fuel blockades and other assorted chaos in France? Will we witness mass civil unrest or will the sleeping middle classes continue to scratch their butts and watch Dancing with the Stars?

Back in June we forecast that the imminent onset of so-called austerity measures, which in reality represent nothing more than an elevated phase of government-run looting of the taxpayer, would herald an “age of rage,” leading to “riots and even revolutions as people react with fury in response to their jobs, savings, basic public services, pensions and welfare money being seized by the financial terrorists who caused the economic collapse in the first place.”

Four months later and citizens of one of the most prosperous countries in the world with the highest standard of living have shut down France after six days of strikes and protests in response to government plans to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62 and the full state pension age from 65 to 67.

French retirement protests take violent turn

PARIS – Masked youths clashed with police and set fires in cities across France on Tuesday as protests against a proposed hike in the retirement age took an increasingly radical turn. Hundreds of flights were canceled, long lines formed at gas stations and train service in many regions was cut in half.

President Nicolas Sarkozy pledged to crack down on “troublemakers” and guarantee public order, raising the possibility of more confrontations with young rioters after a week of disruptive but largely nonviolent demonstrations.

Sarkozy also vowed to ensure that fuel was available to everyone. Some 4,000 gas stations were out of gas Tuesday afternoon, the environment minister said. The prime minister said oil companies agreed to pool gasoline stocks to try to get the dry gas stations filled again.

Prime Minister Francois Fillon said, “The government will continue to dislodge protesters blocking the fuel depots. … No one has the right to take hostage an entire country, its economy and its jobs.”

The protesters are trying to prevent the French parliament from approving a bill that would raise the retirement age from 60 to 62 to help prevent the pension system from going bankrupt. Many workers feel the change would be a dangerous step in eroding France’s social benefits — which include long vacations, contracts that make it hard for employers to lay off workers and a state-subsidized health care system — in favor of “American-style capitalism.”

Fuel supply to Paris airports cut amid pension strikes

Police and students clashed in France in pension reform protests

The fuel pipeline to Paris’s main airports has been shut off amid strikes over government pension reforms.

The company that operates the pipeline told French media that the capital’s main airport, Charles de Gaulle, could run out of fuel as early as next week.

There are fears of fuel shortages as all of France’s 12 oil refineries have been hit by strikes, and many oil depots remain blockaded.

Unions are opposed to government plans to raise the retirement age.

France Crippled by Strike Over Retirement Age

NICE, France (Oct. 12) — Hundreds of thousands of French protesters took to the streets today as part of the fourth nationwide, 24-hour strike in little more than a month over President Nicolas Sarkozy’s plan to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62.

The showdown over Sarkozy’s pension reforms, which resulted in a bigger turnout today than for the past three protests, may intensify even further if the unions follow through with threats for open-ended, rolling strikes.

Steel workers from the nearby Fos-sur-Mer ArcelorMittal plant join a protest march in Marseille, southern France, Tuesday.

Students and families join French pension protests

PARIS (Reuters) – French families, students and private sector workers joined mass demonstrations on Saturday as trade unions ramped up pressure on the government to drop pension reforms.

Opposition to President Nicolas Sarkozy’s plan to raise the retirement age to 62 from 60 showed no signs of abating and hundreds of thousands across the country marched in the fourth round of rallies in as many months

Unions said that about 2.9 million had marched, while police said the crowds numbered 899,000. The union figure was about the same as at the last demonstrations on September 23. The police figure was slightly lower.

Tensions and unrest are boiling over in Pakistan.  It is clear that our relationship has taken a turn for the worst.  This is just the first of a string of attacks that have ended in burning fuel trucks and in some cases their drivers, ghastly deeds.

This is a very serious problem, we must pray even more for those in harm’s way in that region.

Outrage Intensifies in Pakistan Over NATO Strikes as Militants Attack Fuel Trucks

In the wake of three incursions by NATO helicopters into Pakistani air space in less than a week, protests broke out Friday in Pakistan, with some leaders calling NATO’s strikes on militant strongholds “an act of war.”

Militants responded Friday by attacking 27 NATO fuel trucks north of Karachi, and two drivers were burned alive in a separate incident. The attacks were seen as retaliation for NATO’s latest cross-border helicopter strike, which mistakenly killed three Pakistani border police earlier this week.

Khurshid Ahmed, a member of the opposition party in Pakistan, demanded that the NATO strikes stop.

“We regard it as an act of war, and we have demanded that Pakistan government must take immediate steps,” he said, “both stopping supplies to NATO and, No. 2, if our borders are violated we should strike back.”

Ecuador in state of seige, region supports Correa

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) – Ecuador was under a state of siege Friday, the streets quiet with the military in charge of public order, after soldiers rescued President Rafael Correa from a hospital where he’d been surrounded by police who roughed him up and tear-gassed him earlier.

Correa and his ministers called Thursday’s revolt – in which insurgents also paralyzed the nation with airport shutdowns and highway blockades – an attempt to overthrow him and not just a simple insurrection by angry security force members over a new law that would cut benefits for public servants.

Merkel calls for calm as rail protest turns ugly

Chancellor Angela Merkel called for calm Friday after riot police used what critics called “Rambo” tactics to disperse thousands of opponents of a contentious rail project.

“I would hope that demonstrations like these would pass off peacefully,” Merkel told public broadcaster SWR after the skirmishes in the southwestern city of Stuttgart on Thursday that raged on into the night.

“This must always be tried, and anything that leads to violence must be avoided.”

Demonstrators said that more than 20,000 protestors, including more than 1,000 schoolchildren, were dispersed by close to 1,000 police in riot gear using water cannons, pepper spray, tear gas and batons.
