Armed with pump-action shotguns, sidearms and stun grenades the officers look like they belong in a war zone.

In fact they are elite French policemen who were deployed to the historic centre of Lyon yesterday to deal with rioting students.

President Nicolas Sarkozy took the extreme measure in the face of growing protests against an unpopular law aimed at increasing the retirement age from 60 to 62.

Green Technology: Government Motors’ all-electric car isn’t all-electric and doesn’t get near the touted hundreds of miles per gallon. Like “shovel-ready” jobs, maybe there’s no such thing as “plug-ready” cars either.

The Chevy Volt, hailed by the Obama administration as the electric savior of the auto industry and the planet, makes its debut in showrooms next month, but it’s already being rolled out for test drives by journalists. It appears we’re all being taken for a ride.

When President Obama visited a GM plant in Hamtramck near Detroit a few months ago to drive a Chevy Volt 10 feet off an assembly line, we called the car an “electric Edsel.” Now that it’s about to hit the road, nothing revealed has changed our mind.

Advertised as an all-electric car that could drive 50 miles on its lithium battery, GM addressed concerns about where you plug the thing in en route to grandma’s house by adding a small gasoline engine to help maintain the charge on the battery as it starts to run down. It was still an electric car, we were told, and not a hybrid on steroids.

That’s not quite true. The gasoline engine has been found to be more than a range-extender for the battery. Volt (more…)

Geithner Vows That US Won’t Devalue Dollar

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner vowed on Monday that the United States would not devalue the dollar for export advantage, saying no country could weaken its currency to gain economic health.

“It is not going to happen in this country,” Geithner told Silicon Valley business leaders of devaluing the dollar.

Geithner broke his silence on the dollar’s protracted slide ahead of this weekend’s meeting of finance leaders from the Group of 20 wealthy and emerging nations in South Korea, where rising tensions over Chinese and U.S. currency valuations are expected to take center stage.

“It is very important for people to understand that the United States of America and no country around the world can devalue its way to prosperity, to (be) competitive,” Geithner added. “It is not a viable, feasible strategy and we will not engage in it.”

Fed’s Bernanke signals new round of quantitative easing

US Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has opened the way to a new round of quantitative easing.

“There would appear, all else being equal, to be a case for further action,” he said, in a speech to the Boston regional federal reserve.

The US central bank is expected to back a move to buy up US government bonds in order to lower borrowing costs at its next meeting on 3 November.

Mr Bernanke said unemployment and low inflation lay behind his view.

However, some colleagues at the Fed have expressed much more hawkish views, and Mr Bernanke was careful not to pre-empt the decision of the rate-setting committee due next month.

NPR Ends Williams’ Contract After Muslim Remarks

NPR News has terminated the contract of longtime news analyst Juan Williams after remarks he made on the Fox News Channel about Muslims.

Williams appeared Monday on The O’Reilly Factor, and host Bill O’Reilly asked him to comment on the idea that the U.S. is facing a dilemma with Muslims.

O’Reilly has been looking for support for his own remarks on a recent episode of ABC’s The View in which he directly blamed Muslims for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Co-hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg walked off the set in the middle of his appearance.

Williams responded: “Look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

“There would appear—all else being equal—to be a case for further action,” Mr. Bernanke said in prepared remarks for a conference on monetary policy at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

Police and students clashed in France in pension reform protests

The fuel pipeline to Paris’s main airports has been shut off amid strikes over government pension reforms.

The company that operates the pipeline told French media that the capital’s main airport, Charles de Gaulle, could run out of fuel as early as next week.

There are fears of fuel shortages as all of France’s 12 oil refineries have been hit by strikes, and many oil depots remain blockaded.

Unions are opposed to government plans to raise the retirement age.

I posted an article yesterday on this as well, it is amazing how big an impact this will have on our economy, simply due to the fact we have so many dependent on it to live.  The duplicity of the deception is that they say there is no inflation (Really?  Have they gone grocery shopping recently?  Oh that’s right they exclude groceries from their numbers), which there is, but the Fed is working to increase inflation over the next year because they say it is too low…

No Cost of Living Hike to Social Security Next Year

WASHINGTON — More than 58 million retirees and disabled Americans will get no increase in Social Security benefits next year, the second year in a row without a raise.

The Social Security Administration said Friday inflation has been too low since the last increase in 2009 to warrant an increase for 2011. The announcement marks only the second year without an increase since automatic adjustments for inflation were adopted in 1975. The first year was this year.

The cost-of-living adjustments, or COLAs, are automatically set each year by an inflation measure that was adopted by Congress back in the 1970s.

To make up for the lack of a COLA, the House will vote in November — after congressional elections — on a bill to provide $250 payments to Social Security recipients, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. But even if Pelosi can get the House to pass the proposal, it faces opposition in the Senate.

Commandments need more church focus

We have all drifted or been led astray from the basics of God’s word.  Do you know the ten commandments?  List them off in you head right now?  I got quite a few but it took a while.  We all need to get back to the basics of founding our lives on God’s word.  Christ warned of the church falling away in the last days.  Satan is doing his best to quicken the fall.  Do we still teach the 10 commandments in Sunday school?  We must re-found ourselves on the rock…

Google Earth Photos Reveal Syrian Scuds

More confirmation of Syria and Hezbollah has scud rockets and is training to use them.  Scuds are so critical because they can reach all of Israel and are generally more accurate…tensions are rising as we slide toward God’s prophesied Psalm 83 War.

Google Earth Photos Reveal Syrian Scuds

JERUSALEM (Oct. 12) — Israeli defense experts were still sounding alarms this week over Google Earth images made public Friday by the Israeli daily Haaretz. The satellite photos, taken March 22, show Scud missiles ready for deployment at a Syrian base at Adra, where earlier reports suggest Syria is training Hezbollah militants in the use of missiles that threaten large parts of Israel.

The photos show five 11-meter-long Scuds at the Adra base. Three are on trucks in a car park. Two others are in a training area where 20 to 25 people can be made out along with about 20 vehicles. One of the two missiles appears to be mounted on a mobile launcher; another is on the ground.

Earlier reports have suggested that the Adra base, located in a deep valley surrounded by 400-meter mountains, has concrete tunnels leading deep underground where the missiles are apparently stored in protected silos.

Fed Undaunted by Uncertain Prospects for Money Printing

The U.S. Federal Reserve runs the risk of diminishing returns from its next round of money printing to amplify the subdued economic recovery, but that won’t stop it from trying.

Minutes due Tuesday from the Fed’s most recent policy-setting meeting may reflect some divisions among officials over whether to launch another round of asset purchases, known as quantitative easing.

Investors, however, assume the Fed will pull the trigger, likely at its next policy-setting meeting in November.

A Reuters poll of 16 primary dealers—investment firms that deal directly with the Fed—showed all expected the central bank to return to buying bonds.

All but one predicted the announcement would come at the Nov. 2-3 meeting.

The Fed cannot sit idly by with unemployment stuck near 10 percent and inflation below the central bank’s perceived target, economists say. Statements from some of the Fed’s top officials in recent days have made it increasingly clear that action is likely, even though others remain vocally opposed.

Shutting Up Business

Democrats unleash the IRS and Justice on donors to their political opponents.

If at first you don’t succeed, get some friends in high places to shut your opponents up. That’s the latest Washington power play, as Democrats and liberals attack the Chamber of Commerce and independent spending groups in an attempt to stop businesses from participating in politics.

Since the Supreme Court’s January decision in Citizens United v. FEC, Democrats in Congress have been trying to pass legislation to repeal the First Amendment for business, though not for unions. Having failed on that score, they’re now turning to legal and political threats. Funny how all of this outrage never surfaced when the likes of Peter Lewis of Progressive insurance and George Soros helped to make Democrats financially dominant in 2006 and 2008.

The Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Muhammad Badi, who was elected only months ago, has “endorsed anti-American Jihad and pretty much every element in the al-Qaida ideology book,” writes Barry Rubin, author and director of the Global Research in International Affairs Center and editor of the Middle East Review of International Affairs Journal.

Ok, this is a huge sign of the trouble we are in.  Our own Federal Reserve is the second largest owner of our debt and only $25 billion behind China?  How many times have you heard that China owning so much of our debt is a bad thing?  I bet this is the first time most have heard that the Fed owns basically, just as much?  Why?

It’s Official: Fed Is Now Second Largest Holder Of US Treasury Bonds

Today’s POMO is over: at $2.069 billion, the operation was right in line with our expectations, coming in at a lofty 12.16 submitted to accepted ratio, as investors apparently are not too crazy about the yield perspective of the 4 2013 CUSIPs that were repruchased. However, what is far more important is that with holdings of $821.1 billion, the Fed is now officially the second largest holder of US Treasurys. Next up- China.

While the official breakdown will likely be a few weeks late in coming, here is the math:

Fed holdings as of September 30: $811,669

Add:

Total: $821.128 Billion, which compares to Japan total $821.0 Billion as of July 2010

Congratulations, America: your central bank is just $25 billion away from being the Treasury’s largest creditor, and thus able to dominate any and all future debt restructuring negotiations with what is, essentially, itself.

No COLA – Bernanke gets Trumped?

Who would have thought that such a small thing could have such a big impact on our economy.  It just shows how dependent we have become on the government.  This is huge, and it will probably just be a blip, if even that, for most folks on a news ticker…

No COLA – Bernanke gets Trumped?

Social Security announced that there will be no increase in benefit levels for another year. The reason? Deflation. Based on the Cost of Living index no increase in checks is justified. You might get an argument on that from the 60+% of the beneficiaries whose primary source of income is SS. This will impact the macro economic picture.

In the period 2000-2008 the average COLA increase was 3%. Because of the big eco dump it has been zero for 2010 and now again for 2011.

SSA will pay ~$700b in benefits this year. 3% of that comes to $21b. That is a pretty important number. Most of the SS checks are spent. Little of it is saved, so this will impact consumption on a nearly 1 to 1 basis. $21b is 1/4% of our GDP (includes multiplier). Poof!

Does this matter? Sure it does. Economists who forecast growth will have to knock down their numbers by at least ¼% (more…)

Prophecy Sign: In Revelation Jesus warning us who it is that will control what you can buy or sell. Since the US is on the edge of another depression and the dollar is slowing dying off you need to understand what the US Government has in store when the nation is tossed into chaos. Events being played out all over the world are leading to the final events Jesus warned about in the Book of Revelation. In order for one man, the Antichrist, to take control of the world there must be some event or events that will rise him to power. Without this mark you are not going to be able to be part of the world’s new economic structure, which means you are on your own to fend for yourself. Take a good look at the words of Jesus Christ on this matter found in Revelation 13:16-17. “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”   God showed the Prophet Daniel that this man would be rising from the revived Roman Empire. Most of the people around the world aren’t even aware this empire has already arrived and is getting ready to fulfill it role of powers that were outlined for us in the Book of Daniel.  What do you think is going to happen when the most powerful nation in the world falls apart?  Do you not understand that her collapse is going to affect you in whatever nation you live in?  The plans that the US Government have drawn up for a time of unrest are just a peace of the puzzle. Nations around this planet have their own plans to handle the civil unrest that is approaching like a run away train. Watch the video and learn what the US has done to prepare for the civil unrest. One other note. Jesus also told us in Matthew 24:7 that we would witness this unrest as one of the last day signs. In part of this verse Christ said, “kingdom against kingdom” this is the civil unrest.

I can’t believe they are talking about this, there is nothing worst for our dollar and our purchasing power.  What little savings Americans have is being eroded (stolen) while it sits in banks.  Check out the graph below, from a WSJ article, it shows the cliff we are facing.

If this quadruple whammy hits:

tax increases (from Obama and bush tax cuts expiring)(end of year),

Obama care takes effect (end of year),

our trade war with China is escalated (underway), and

the Fed’s Inflation Fix (between now and end of year)

we will go over the edge of the cliff…(just like in 1937…)

The Federal Reserve spent the past three decades getting inflation low and keeping it there. But as the U.S. economy struggles and flirts with the prospect of deflation, some central bank officials are publicly broaching a controversial idea: lifting inflation above the Fed’s informal target.

The rationale is that getting inflation up even temporarily would push “real” interest rates—nominal rates minus inflation—down, encouraging consumers and businesses to save less and to spend or invest more.

Both inside and outside the Fed, though, such an approach is controversial. It could undermine the anti-inflation credibility the Fed won three decades ago by raising interest rates to double-digits to beat back late-1970s price surges. “It’s a big mistake,” said Allan Meltzer of Carnegie Mellon University, a central bank historian. “Higher inflation is not going to solve our problem. Any gain from that experience would be temporary,” adding that the economy would suffer later.

Dollar tumbles to fresh 15-year low against yen

TOKYO (AFP) – The dollar tumbled to a fresh 15-year low at 82.22 against the yen in Tokyo trading hours on Thursday on persistent fears over the US economic outlook.

The dollar fell from 82.87 in earlier trade to well below the level at which Japan last month carried out its first currency market intervention since 2004 to weaken the yen and protect an export-led recovery.

It later strengthened back to the mid 82-yen level.

The markets increasingly expect the US Federal Reserve to pump more money into the system to boost the flagging economy, even if doing so weakens the dollar and risks fanning inflation.

“The basic trend is dollar selling on the expected credit easing… The market is now sensitive to any negative news on the US economy,” said Yasuyuki Takeuchi, dealer at Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking.

The Australian dollar on Thursday surged to an all time high of around 99.00 US cents, traders said, outstripping the record of 98.49 since it was allowed to float in December 1983.

The euro was trading close the key 1.40 dollar level, at around 1.3983.

“A lot of the trading community thinks this has further to go,” Daragh Maher, a senior currencies analyst at Credit Agricole in London told Dow Jones Newswires.

‘Flag of Islam’ Over the White House Vow

On last night’s “O’Reilly Factor,” host Bill O’Reilly lambasted ABC TV host Christiane Amanpour regarding her handling of recent comments by a British Muslim cleric that Islam will “conquer” America.

“The liberal media … is buying into the gentile Islam,” he told guest Charles Krauthammer. “The media in America is close to [becoming] the media in Europe, which as you know is a very significant factor in this kind of situation.”

On Sunday, Muslim cleric Anjem Choudary claimed that Sharia law will one day rule the East and West and “the flag of Islam will fly over the White House.” (See video below.)

“That is a provocative statement that Miss Amanpour certainly didn’t challenge the way she should have,” O’Reilly said. “That’s what gets me about ABC news. … They let this stuff go and I don’t think they should”:

Saudis arrest Filipino Catholics at mass…

Our christian brothers and sisters around the world are feeling the persecution.  But I would say, we too are feeling it here in the US but in a much more subtle, deadly way.  We are slowly being told we can not be open with our faith, we have to be guarded with our views, as the very mention could “offend” someone, or cause unforeseen consequences.  I hope we can stand strong, and not bend to the pressure.

On a side note, it always amazes me that in the public debate, that in christian nations, any religion can be practices without persecution, but in Islamic nations, only Islam can be practiced.  That is never noted.  Who is truly tolerant?  Tolerance doesn’t mean you have to agree, just allow the practicing of the religion.

Saudis arrest Filipino Catholics at mass: report

The raid took place as some 150 Filipinos were attending the mass in a Riyadh rest house

Riyadh: Saudi police raided a secret Catholic mass in Riyadh last week and arrested a dozen Filipinos and a Catholic priest, charging them with prosyletising, a local daily reported on Wednesday.

The raid took place as some 150 Filipinos were attending the mass in a Riyadh rest house on Friday, the second day of the weekend in Saudi Arabia, Arab News said.

The twelve Filipino men and the priest, whose nationality was not specified, were “charged with prosyletising,” the daily quoted an official from the Philippine embassy in Riyadh as saying.

Muslims are taking over parts of the world into which they move simply by outnumbering the previous residents, concludes a new study by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.

Study coordinator Brian Grim says that of the estimated 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide, most are South Asian, largely in India and Indonesia. The second largest Muslim group comes from the Middle East.

‘Christian’ media swings left

David Neff is editor-in-chief for Christianity Today. The magazine is still considered to be mainstream and representative of evangelicals. It was founded when Ike was president, and it is amazing how many Christians consider CT to be their friend. In reality, it is center-left and fairly contemptuous of the issues conservative Christians hold dear.

Witness Neff’s recent Facebook post, in which he cites a Wall St. Journal piece about the Ground Zero mosque. Neff said that “all the negative attention” the mosque project has received has in fact helped amass a war chest for the building of the mosque. Again, Neff was citing the WSJ article, but one wonders why he seems to aim a weird web of blame at Americans who find the mosque both offensive and potentially dangerous.

Of course, the editorial staff at CT has a long history of center-left stances.

Christianity a ‘Faded Memory’ for Most Young Britons

LONDON – Most young people in Britain consider Christianity irrelevant to their lives but they are not as hostile towards religion as their parents’ generation, researchers in the Church of England have found.

The researchers surveyed 300 young people from Generation Y – those born after 1982 – who had attended a Christian youth or community project. The five-year study looked at their faith in relation to Christianity and the impact of Christian youth and community work on their faith development.

It found that young people were more likely to put their faith in friends, their family or themselves than in God.

In Holy Land, Christians a community in decline

BEIT SAHOUR, West Bank (Reuters) – In the land where Jesus lived, Christians say their dwindling numbers are turning churches from places of worship into museums.

And when Christian pilgrims come from all over the world to visit the places of Christ’s birth, death and resurrection, they find them divided by a concrete wall.

Members of the Abu al-Zulaf family, Palestinian Christians, have left the hills and olive groves of their village near Bethlehem for Sweden and the United States, seeking a better life than that on offer in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Ayman Abu al-Zulaf, 41, moved to France in 1998. But he returned to Beit Sahour, the village where he was born, a year later. “I needed to be here, not in France,” he said. “Without Christians, the Holy Land, the land of Jesus, has no value.”

That’s his message to Christian pilgrims he meets through his work as a tour guide. “Christians have a very major mission here in Palestine. We are the bridge to the West,” he said.

Today, Christians make up just 1 percent of the mainly Muslim population of the Palestinian territories, said Hanna Eissa, who is in charge of Christian affairs in the Palestinian Authority’s religious affairs ministry.

SCHULTZ: Now, conservatives want you to believe that Glenn Beck’s phony religious revival was way bigger than the One Nation rally. Well, let me take you back to the day of the Beck rally on August 28th, 2010, at 6:32 P.M., CBS.com proved Beck’s crowd was, as I said, no big shakes. “An estimated 87,000 people attended the rally organized by radio talk show host and Fox News commentator Glenn Beck Saturday in Washington, according to a crowd estimate commissioned by CBS News. The company, AirPhotosLive.com, based the attendance on aerial photos it took over the rally.” Now to be fair, NBC News put the size of Beck’s crowd at 300,000 people. So, somewhere in between all of this, 87,000, give or take 9 grand by that company, and 300,000 is reported by NBC. Pretty much, would you say that the size of the crowd is pretty much the same? I would. I was there. The people I saw, it was packed.

Is America heading toward another Great Depression? The answer may not be a definite “yes” or “no,“ but rather an eerie ”maybe.”

In yesterday’s Wall Street Journal, Donald Luskin laid out an argument for why, should we continue on our path, America might be poised to repeat the mistakes it made that lead up to and perpetuated the Great Depression. In other words, if history is a great teacher, we could be its worst students.

What may allow the “history repeats itself” cliche to ring true, he says, is the expiration of the Bush-era tax cuts and a renewed aggression toward trade via a recent amendment to the Smoot-Hawley Act — a union favor: both “doomsday clocks” with a deafening tick-tock, tick-tock.

Wall Street Sees World Economy Decoupling From U.S.

Wall Street economists are reviving a bet that the global economy will withstand the U.S. slowdown.

Just three years since America began dragging the world into its deepest recession in seven decades, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Credit Suisse Holdings USA Inc. and BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research are forecasting that this time will be different. Goldman Sachs predicts worldwide growth will slow 0.2 percentage point to 4.6 percent in 2011, even as expansion in the U.S. falls to 1.8 percent from 2.6 percent.

Underpinning their analysis is the view that international reliance on U.S. trade has diminished and is too small to spread the lingering effects of America’s housing bust. Providing the U.S. pain doesn’t roil financial markets as it did in the credit crisis, Goldman Sachs expects a weakening dollar, higher bond yields outside the U.S. and stronger emerging-market equities.

“So long as it doesn’t turn to flu, the world can withstand a cold from the U.S.,” Ethan Harris, head of developed-markets economic research in New York at BofA Merrill Lynch, said in a telephone interview. He predicts the U.S. will expand 1.8 percent next year, compared with 3.9 percent globally.

Ground Zero mosque likened to Superman’s HQ

Futuristic designs for an Islamic centre and mosque near the site of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York have been unveiled to widespread expert acclaim.

The sketches showed a 16-storey building wrapped in a honeycomb of abstract shapes.

The building was compared by some to the Fortress of Solitude, the crystalline headquarters of Superman depicted in comic books.

Others suggested that some of the shapes resembled the Jewish symbol of the Star of David. The company behind the development pointed out that the hexagram is also used in Islam, as the Seal of Solomon, as well as in Christianity and other religions.

Sharif El-Gamal, the developer, said: “We want to have a marriage between Islamic architecture and New York City. We want to do something that is green and cool.”

The proposed Islamic centre, two blocks from the site of the World Trade Centre attacks, has created widespread controversy in the United States.

The designs suggest it will have four floors taken up by a sports, fitness and swimming centre.

There will also be a child care centre, a restaurant, culinary school, art studios, exhibition space and auditorium.

The prayer space for Muslims will be on two levels in the basement, and the 12th floor will have a 9/11 memorial and sanctuary open to people of all faiths.

Inflation Raises Its Ugly Head

God has warned us of cost increases and/or scarcity in the last days.  Inflation is being covered up by our government.  At a point, it will no longer be hidden, great article below by Todd of Rapture Ready – his weekly Nearing Midnight section.

“When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, ‘Come!’ And I looked, and behold, a black horse! And its rider had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying, ‘A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and do not harm the oil and wine!’” (Rev 6:5-6).

Inflation Raises Its Ugly Head

For nearly thirty years, the U.S. has been blessed with low inflation. There are now signs that our luck is about to run out. The U.S. monetary base has more than tripled over the last couple of years, and all that money is starting to filter into the hands of consumers. Commodity prices are absolutely skyrocketing, and it is inevitable that those price increases will show up at the grocery store.

In his recent article entitled “An Inflationary Cocktail in the Making,” Richard Benson lists sixteen key commodities that have seen huge price increases over the past year:

Interfaith Group Urges U.S. To Press For Middle East Agreement

(RNS) A broad coalition of U.S. Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders has backed the Obama administration’s efforts to broker peace between Israel and Palestinians.

Members of the National Interreligious Leadership Initiative for Peace in the Middle East met Wednesday (Sept. 29) with National Security Advisor Gen. James Jones and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. The coalition called for “active, fair and firm U.S. leadership for Arab-Israeli-Palestinian peace.”

“We believe that concerted, sustained U.S. leadership for peace is essential,” the coalition said. “And we know that time is not on the side of peace, that delay is not an option.”

The group has expressed faith in a two-state solution since forming in 2003. Its latest statement was signed by 15 Christian leaders representing Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, evangelical and mainline Protestant denominations; six rabbis and a professor from Judaism’s Reform and Reconstructionist movements; and six Muslims representing the Islamic Society of North America and other groups.

“One of the biggest obstacles to peace in the Middle East is cynicism,” said Bishop Howard Hubbard, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on International Justice and Peace.

“As people of faith, we must remember that with God all things are possible. The human spirit can overcome even the longest and most violent of conflicts.”

Atlanta – For many living in a terror-spooked country, it might seem like a great government innovation: Use vans equipped with mobile X-ray units to scan vehicles at major sporting events, or even randomly, for bombs or contraband.

But news that the US is buying custom-made vans packed with something called backscatter X-ray capacity has riled privacy advocates and sparked internet worries about “feds radiating Americans.”

“This really trips up the creep factor because it’s one of those things that you sort of intrinsically think the government shouldn’t be doing,” says Vermont-based privacy expert Frederick Lane, author of “American Privacy.” “But, legally, the issue is the boundary between the government’s legitimate security interest and privacy expectations we enjoy in our cars.”

McDonald’s May Drop Health Plan

Isn’t it interesting in just about every instance that the government trying to help a group a people, they end up making their lives worst in the short-term and long-term.

Here is a great example of how the federal health care reform is just one of the latest great works of deception.  It was put in place to help all those that could not afford health insurance and to make it cheaper for those that had it.

But now we find that companies can’t afford its HIGHER costs so they may have to drop those that had coverage before the bill’s passage.

McDonald’s Corp. has warned federal regulators that it could drop its health insurance plan for nearly 30,000 hourly restaurant workers unless regulators waive a new requirement of the U.S. health overhaul.

The move is one of the clearest indications that new rules may disrupt workers’ health plans as the law ripples through the real world.

Trade groups representing restaurants and retailers say low-wage employers might halt their coverage if the government doesn’t loosen a requirement for “mini-med” plans, which offer limited benefits to some 1.4 million Americans.

Political power up for grabs in education system

This is major and just another great example of the deception that is occurring in these last days.  This is one of many things that is going on under the water or behind closed doors through regulation.

Just imagine if there was no other options but government-funded schools.  The federal government has already, this year taken over all college loan programs.  Which means they have total control over who goes to college.

Now they are after K-12.

Also, imagine what public school would be like if it had no competition from private schools, where would we be today.  Any reform we have gotten, has been due to competition from private a parochial schools.

It is amazing how fast all of this power grab has happened.

Colorado Christian University president Bill Armstrong fears all of higher education — public and private, religious and secular — could become federalized. As he explains in his column, “Stop plan to put colleges under political supervision,” the Department of Education has proposed new rules that will deny regional accreditation to any institution that has not first been given “substantive” state “authorization.” Although the details are sketchy, Armstrong believes this is a political power grab.

Ted Turner blasts U.S. for once again sitting back on climate change

Speaking at the Colorado Conservation Voters annual fall luncheon today, media mogul Ted Turner scolded the United States for failing to sign the Kyoto Protocol and said the rest of the world is waiting for the United States to take a leadership role in clean energy and climate change.

“It is such a complicated issue,” Turner said of climate change. “It is the most complicated issue humanity has ever faced. It is easy to be a naysayer, and the opposition has learned that it is easier to do nothing. They have done a good job of casting some doubt on global warming.”

Gov. Bill Ritter, sitting on stage with Turner and moderator Reggie Rivers, agreed with Turner that climate change is the issue of the day.

“I think we are at a place better than we were at five years ago, but it has become politicized and I think we are in a really difficult place in the country because some really important issues have become politicized and very difficult to work on,” Ritter said.

“Climate change has become a four-letter word, where candidates are afraid to have a discussion on it,” Ritter said.
