No Cost of Living Hike to Social Security Next Year

I posted an article yesterday on this as well, it is amazing how big an impact this will have on our economy, simply due to the fact we have so many dependent on it to live.  The duplicity of the deception is that they say there is no inflation (Really?  Have they gone grocery shopping recently?  Oh that’s right they exclude groceries from their numbers), which there is, but the Fed is working to increase inflation over the next year because they say it is too low…

No Cost of Living Hike to Social Security Next Year

WASHINGTON — More than 58 million retirees and disabled Americans will get no increase in Social Security benefits next year, the second year in a row without a raise.

The Social Security Administration said Friday inflation has been too low since the last increase in 2009 to warrant an increase for 2011. The announcement marks only the second year without an increase since automatic adjustments for inflation were adopted in 1975. The first year was this year.

The cost-of-living adjustments, or COLAs, are automatically set each year by an inflation measure that was adopted by Congress back in the 1970s.

To make up for the lack of a COLA, the House will vote in November — after congressional elections — on a bill to provide $250 payments to Social Security recipients, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. But even if Pelosi can get the House to pass the proposal, it faces opposition in the Senate.

The grace of God is a fundamental aspect of salvation and is the sole means by which man’s redemption is accomplished. The renowned classic hymn “Amazing Grace” is the best known hymn of the Christian Church and has been universally heard by both Christian and non-Christian alike. But what exactly is so amazing about this grace?

Like many theological words, the word and use of “grace” is one of the several common words Christians frequently use in their witness and testimony to the unbeliever without really defining and explaining what it exactly means. Grace has routinely been defined as the undeserved favor of God shown to man. A more precise definition would be to add an additional feature to that by stating: The single source for this grace flows from God the Father through the incarnation of God the Son made effectual by the work of God the Holy Spirit in the heart of the one who believes. Are you convinced that a Holy God could never love you? Many are.

To the contrary, some people ride high on the waves of egotism, either believing there is no God or they do not need God in their lives. These unfortunate souls seem to think their works, their education, their position in the community and/or church, and various other excuses make them a gift to God. This is not only sad, but tragic, because they can never know God until they see themselves as God sees them.

Going back to the other end of the spectrum, others are just the opposite. They are so down on themselves, they think God could never care about them. However, these dear folks are closer to being helped spiritually, than the proud mentioned earlier. Why? Iranian leader: “All divine religions guide mankind to prosperity”; as part of two-day visit is set to visit battlegrounds of Second Lebanon War, including Bint Jbeil and Maroun a-Ras.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday called on all religious scholars and leaders to come together in solving challenges facing human societies during a meeting with Lebanese scholars, clerics and religious leaders on the second and last day of his visit to Lebanon, Press TV reported. 

“Scholars of divine religions can put major challenges facing human societies on the agenda to find … solutions to them,” Ahmadinejad said, according to the Press TV report.

Crowley says “right conversation for 2 sides” after PLO chief quoted as saying willing to recognize Israel if US, Israel recognize pre-1967 lines.

US State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley responded on Wednesday night to senior PLO official, Yasser Abed Rabbo’s, proposal that the US administration and Israeli government recognize the pre-1967 lines as the borders of a future Palestinian state, saying that it “represents the interest in the parties in continuing this effort.”

Crowley responding to questions at a daily press conference said “this is exactly the right conversation that the Israelis and Palestinians need to have to be exchanging ideas on how to advance this process to a successful conclusion.”

WASHINGTON – Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is assailing “the absolute barbarity” displayed by terrorists and criminals around the world.

Clinton tells ABC television that the U.S. government is doing everything possible to help the family of David Hartley, an American tourist who reportedly was murdered on a Texas-Mexico border lake. Clinton, travelling in Europe, says “the beheaded body of the brave Mexican investigator that just showed up shows what we’re dealing with.”

BEIJING (Reuters) – The United States fired the first shot in the currency war and the rest of the world must be on guard for its deliberate strategy to devalue the dollar, a Chinese economist said in an official newspaper on Thursday.

In a front-page commentary in the overseas edition of the People’s Daily, Li Xiangyang described the United States as the conflict’s “first maker of tomb figures,” a Chinese idiom that means someone who creates a bad precedent.

Li, head of the Asia department at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, a top government think tank, said continued intervention in currency markets by developed economies would deal a blow to global economic recovery.

Chinese leaders have warned before that loose monetary policies in the United States pose a serious challenge for emerging markets, but rarely in such strident language, a window onto the rising anger in Beijing.

“The dollar’s depreciation may appear to be market-driven. In reality, it is a depreciation colored by very strong, deliberate actions,” Li said in the paper, which serves as the chief mouthpiece of China’s ruling Communist Party.

Fed Mulls Raising Inflation Expectations to Boost Economy

Federal Reserve policy makers may want Americans to expect inflation to accelerate in the future so they spend more of their money now.

Central bankers, seeking ways to boost flagging growth after lowering interest rates almost to zero and buying $1.7 trillion of securities, are weighing strategies for raising inflation expectations as well as expanding the balance sheet by purchasing Treasuries, according to minutes of the Fed’s Sept. 21 meeting released yesterday.

Some Fed officials are concerned that expectations of lower inflation will become self-fulfilling, damping demand by increasing borrowing costs in real terms, the minutes said. By encouraging Americans to believe prices will start rising at a faster pace, the Fed would reduce inflation-adjusted interest rates and stimulate the economy. Chairman Ben S. Bernanke said in 2003 that Japan could beat deflation by using a “publicly announced, gradually rising price-level target.”

Palestinians demand Israel present map of its borders

“If map is based on 1967 lines, then PA will recognize Israel by whatever name it wants,” PLO chief Abed Rabbo quoted as saying.

A Palestinian official demanded a map of Israel’s borders on Wednesday in response to a US State Department statement urging the Palestinians to extend a counter-proposal to Israel’s demand that they recognize it as a Jewish state.

The State Department Tuesday urged the sides to come to a compromise and called for Palestinians to make clear what would be acceptable to them in lieu of a declaration that Israel is a Jewish state.

Commandments need more church focus

We have all drifted or been led astray from the basics of God’s word.  Do you know the ten commandments?  List them off in you head right now?  I got quite a few but it took a while.  We all need to get back to the basics of founding our lives on God’s word.  Christ warned of the church falling away in the last days.  Satan is doing his best to quicken the fall.  Do we still teach the 10 commandments in Sunday school?  We must re-found ourselves on the rock…

Google Earth Photos Reveal Syrian Scuds

More confirmation of Syria and Hezbollah has scud rockets and is training to use them.  Scuds are so critical because they can reach all of Israel and are generally more accurate…tensions are rising as we slide toward God’s prophesied Psalm 83 War.

Google Earth Photos Reveal Syrian Scuds

JERUSALEM (Oct. 12) — Israeli defense experts were still sounding alarms this week over Google Earth images made public Friday by the Israeli daily Haaretz. The satellite photos, taken March 22, show Scud missiles ready for deployment at a Syrian base at Adra, where earlier reports suggest Syria is training Hezbollah militants in the use of missiles that threaten large parts of Israel.

The photos show five 11-meter-long Scuds at the Adra base. Three are on trucks in a car park. Two others are in a training area where 20 to 25 people can be made out along with about 20 vehicles. One of the two missiles appears to be mounted on a mobile launcher; another is on the ground.

Earlier reports have suggested that the Adra base, located in a deep valley surrounded by 400-meter mountains, has concrete tunnels leading deep underground where the missiles are apparently stored in protected silos.

NICE, France (Oct. 12) — Hundreds of thousands of French protesters took to the streets today as part of the fourth nationwide, 24-hour strike in little more than a month over President Nicolas Sarkozy’s plan to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62.

The showdown over Sarkozy’s pension reforms, which resulted in a bigger turnout today than for the past three protests, may intensify even further if the unions follow through with threats for open-ended, rolling strikes.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — One of the strongest earthquakes on record in Oklahoma rattled parts of five states Wednesday and left two people with minor injuries.

The earthquake struck at 9:06 a.m. about six miles east of Norman in Cleveland County, sharply shaking portions of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The U.S. Geological Survey estimated the magnitude to be 4.3, but research seismologist Austin Holland said the Oklahoma Geological Survey measured it at 5.1. The higher figure would make Wednesday’s temblor the second-strongest here since records began.

Gallup Finds U.S. Unemployment at 10.1% in September

PRINCETON, NJ — Unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, increased to 10.1% in September — up sharply from 9.3% in August and 8.9% in July. Much of this increase came during the second half of the month — the unemployment rate was 9.4% in mid-September — and therefore is unlikely to be picked up in the government’s unemployment report on Friday.

Fed Certain to Act in November In a Big Way: Survey

Following Friday’s disappointing jobs report, market participants are now virtually certain that the Federal Reserve will announce that it will resume buying assets at the conclusion of its November meeting and do so in a sizeable way, according to an exclusive CNBC Fed Survey.

Nearly 93 percent of the 70 respondents, including economists, fund managers and traders, believe the Fed will boost the size of its portfolio, up from 69 percent in the survey two weeks ago.

Of those who expect the Fed to move, 86 percent look for an announcement in November, up from 38 percent in the last survey.

Market participants forecast that the Fed will announce plans to purchase $500 billion in assets at the conclusion of the upcoming meeting, the first time the question has been asked.

Fed Undaunted by Uncertain Prospects for Money Printing

The U.S. Federal Reserve runs the risk of diminishing returns from its next round of money printing to amplify the subdued economic recovery, but that won’t stop it from trying.

Minutes due Tuesday from the Fed’s most recent policy-setting meeting may reflect some divisions among officials over whether to launch another round of asset purchases, known as quantitative easing.

Investors, however, assume the Fed will pull the trigger, likely at its next policy-setting meeting in November.

A Reuters poll of 16 primary dealers—investment firms that deal directly with the Fed—showed all expected the central bank to return to buying bonds.

All but one predicted the announcement would come at the Nov. 2-3 meeting.

The Fed cannot sit idly by with unemployment stuck near 10 percent and inflation below the central bank’s perceived target, economists say. Statements from some of the Fed’s top officials in recent days have made it increasingly clear that action is likely, even though others remain vocally opposed.

Hungary: Toxic red sludge has reached the Danube

KOLONTAR, Hungary – The toxic red sludge that burst out of a metals plant reservoir and inundated three villages reached the mighty Danube on Thursday, but an Hungarian emergency official said no immediate damage was evident on Europe’s second-longest river.

The European Union and environmental officials had feared an environmental catastrophe affecting half a dozen nations if the red sludge, a waste product of making aluminum, contaminated the 1,775-mile (2,850-kilometer) long Danube.

The reservoir break Monday disgorged a toxic torrent into local creeks that flow into waterways connected to the Danube. Creeks in Kolontar, the closest town to the spill site, were swollen ochre red Wednesday and villagers said they were devoid of fish. Kolontar is 45 miles (70 kilometers) south of the Danube.

The red sludge reached the western branch of the Danube early Thursday, Hungarian rescue agency spokesman Tibor Dobson told the state MTI news agency. He did not address concerns that the caustic slurry might contain toxic metals but said its pH content had been reduced to the point where it was unlikely to cause further damage to the environment.

420 banks demand 1-world currency

The Institute of International Finance, a group that represents 420 of the world’s largest banks and finance houses, has issued yet another call for a one-world global currency, Jerome Corsi’s Red Alert reports.

“A core group of the world’s leading economies need to come together and hammer out an understanding,” Charles Dallara, the Institute of International Finance’s managing director, told the Financial Times.

An IIF policy letter authored by Dallara and dated Oct. 4 made clear that global currency coordination was needed, in the group’s view, to prevent a looming currency war.

“The narrowly focused unilateral and bilateral policy actions seen in recent months – including many proposed and actual measures on trade, currency intervention and monetary policy – have contributed to worsening underlying macroeconomic imbalances,” Dallara wrote. “They have also led to growing protectionist pressures as countries scramble for export markets as a source of growth.”

Dallard encouraged a return to the G-20 commitment to utilize International Monetary Fund special drawing rights to create an international one-world currency alternative to the U.S. dollar as a new standard of foreign-exchange reserves.

Shutting Up Business

Democrats unleash the IRS and Justice on donors to their political opponents.

If at first you don’t succeed, get some friends in high places to shut your opponents up. That’s the latest Washington power play, as Democrats and liberals attack the Chamber of Commerce and independent spending groups in an attempt to stop businesses from participating in politics.

Since the Supreme Court’s January decision in Citizens United v. FEC, Democrats in Congress have been trying to pass legislation to repeal the First Amendment for business, though not for unions. Funny how all of this outrage never surfaced when the likes of Peter Lewis of Progressive insurance and George Soros helped to make Democrats financially dominant in 2006 and 2008.

Earthquakes in Arkansas, yep, another round, and as recently as this year there are predictions the previously unknown fault could yield one the size of Hatti’s recent quake…Christ predicted we would see earthquakes increase as the birth pains worsened, and in places we did not normally see them…

SEOUL, Oct. 10 (Yonhap) — The upcoming Seoul G-20 summit is expected to set the key agenda and lay the foundation for a new post-crisis economic order that will promote sustainable development for all countries, economists say.

Experts from thinks tanks such as the state-run Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) and the Korea Institute of Finance (KIF) said that while contentious issues may not be resolved, broad understanding of financial reforms and balanced growth should be reached when leaders meet next month in the South Korean capital.

Stocks drop as Fed rate-setter rattles investors

LONDON – World markets fell Tuesday after a leading U.S. rate-setter dampened expectations that the Federal Reserve is preparing a massive monetary stimulus next month and amid mounting speculation that China is planning to raised reserve requirements for banks to cool lending.

In Europe, the FTSE 100 index of leading British shares was down 42.51 points, or 0.8 percent, at 5,629.89 while Germany’s DAX fell 33.09 points, or 0.5 percent, to 6,276.42. The CAC-40 in France was 47.70 points, or 1.3 percent, at 3,720.79.

Wall Street is also poised for a lower opening as trading activity picks up following the Columbus Day holiday, which kept bond markets closed and stocks sluggish Monday — Dow futures were down 52 points, or 0.5 percent, at 10,911 while the broader Standard & Poor’s 500 futures fell 6.6 points, 0.6 percent, at 1,155.70.

Hungary races to build dam amid new sludge threat

(Reuters) – Workers raced to build an emergency dam in western Hungary on Sunday as cracks in a reservoir widened, threatening to unleash a second torrent of toxic sludge on the village of Kolontar and nearby rivers.

About one million cubic meters of the waste material leaked out of the alumina plant reservoir into villages and waterways earlier this week, killing seven people, injuring 123 and fouling rivers including a local branch of the Danube.

Nearly a week into the disaster, a person was still missing.

Now, a longtime observer of Islam is warning that a “war declaration” of potentially much greater significance has been made.

The Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Muhammad Badi, who was elected only months ago, has “endorsed anti-American Jihad and pretty much every element in the al-Qaida ideology book,” writes Barry Rubin, author and director of the Global Research in International Affairs Center and editor of the Middle East Review of International Affairs Journal.

The Brotherhood – the dominant Islamic organization in the West that has spawned most of the major Muslim terrorist groups, including al-Qaida, along with the biggest “mainstream” organizations – is giving the signal that it is “ready to move from the era of propaganda and base-building to one of revolutionary action,” says Rubin.

In a sermon published Sept. 30 titled “How Islam Confronts the Oppression and Tyranny [against the Muslims],” Badi said waging jihad against both of these infidels, Israel and the U.S., is a commandment of Allah that cannot be disregarded.

Netanyahu offers settlement freeze in return for recognition as Jewish state, Palestinians say no

Prime minister says Israel will extend settlement freeze if the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state, Abbas spokesman says ‘issue of Jewishness of the state has nothing to do with the matter.’

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered Monday to halt settlement construction if the Palestinians were to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, but the Palestinian leadership was prompt to reject the proposal.

“If the Palestinian leadership will say unequivocally to its people that it recognizes Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people, I will be ready to convene my government and request a further suspension,” Netanyahu said while speaking at the opening of the third session of the 18th Knesset.

“Just as the Palestinians expect us to recognize their state, we expect reciprocal treatment,” said Netanyahu.

FM tells French and Spanish FMs to solve European problems before coming to solve Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, fresh off what was widely viewed as his “undiplomatic” address to the UN General Assembly last month, told his visiting Spanish and French counterparts on Sunday that before coming to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, they should concentrate on the problems in their own backyard.

“I don’t expect you to solve the problems of the world, but I certainly expect that before you come here to teach us how to solve conflicts, you will deal with the problems in Europe and solve those conflicts,” Lieberman told French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos, who arrived on Sunday for a day of talks in Israel, followed by a day of talks in the Palestinian Authority.

Ministerial C’tee passes J’lem-Golan land referendum bill

Law would require national referendum in any instance in which Israel agrees to hand over areas that have been annexed; ministers Edelstein, Livnat, Hershkowitz vote in favor, Herzog, Meridor against.

A bill requiring a national referendum before relinquishing land in Jerusalem and the Golan Heights passed during a special meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Legislation on Monday, laying the groundwork for it to become law within weeks.

According to the spokesman of the committee, among those who voted in favor of the bill were Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Minister Yuli Edelstein, Culture and Sport Minister Limor Livnat, and Science and Technology Minister Daniel Hershkowitz, with Welfare and Social Services Minister Isaac Herzog and Intelligence and Atomic Affairs Minister Dan Meridor voting against it.

France: UN creation of Palestinian state possible

The option of the UN Security Council creating a Palestinian state cannot be ruled out, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has said in a recently published interview.

But he got short shrift from Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman during a meeting Sunday.

Kouchner told the Palestinian newspaper Al-Ayyam that France preferred a two-state solution to be negotiated with Israel, but added that appealing to the Security Council to resolve the conflict remained a possibility.

“We want to be able to soon welcome the state of Palestine to the United Nations. This is the hope and the desire of the international community, and the sooner that can happen the better,” he said.

Report: Abbas Wants UN Forces in Jerusalem

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas delivered a vitriol-laden speech to the Arab League on Saturday in which he attacked Israel for “Judaizing” Jerusalem, according to the PA-based Wafa news service. Abbas called to involve the world in forcing Israel to split the city.

The PA and the Arab League have demanded that all parts of Jerusalem east of the 1949 armistice line – including those that are historically Jewish, and including the Temple Mount, Judaism’s holiest site – be turned over to the PA as the capital of a new Arab state in Judea and Samaria.

France has threatened to recognize a unilateral declaration of statehood by the Palestinian Authority if final status talks with Israel are “delayed.”

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner was quoted Sunday in an interview with the Arabic-language newspaper al-Ayyam as saying his government would not rule out the possibility of recognizing the unilateral establishment of a new PA country.

Kouchner, who himself is Jewish, said France would consider the option if PA talks with Israel were to suffer from “delays,” although Paris preferred the two-state solution to be negotiated between the two entities.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi told a pro-Israel rally in Rome late last week that Israel has a right to exist and a right to its security – and that ensuring both are an ethical and moral imperative for the Italian people.

“Israel’s security within its borders, as well as its right to exist as a Jewish state, is the ethical choice for Italians and a moral obligation against anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial,” Berlusconi told the crowd.

“My visit to the Auschwitz extermination camp, as well as the horror of the Holocaust barbary, gave rise to my indelible feeling of solidarity,” the Italian prime minister explained. “Since then, I feel Israeli.”

WASHINGTON (AP) – Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is urging the International Monetary Fund to play a bigger role in monitoring how countries manage their currencies.

Geithner told the IMF’s top policy committee on Saturday that the 187-nation lending institution must speak more forcefully about exchange rate policies.

Geithner’s remarks are the latest effort by the United States to bring more pressure on China to allow its currency to rise in value against the dollar. American manufacturers believe China is unfairly manipulating its currency to gain trade advantages.

In Your Anger Do Not Sin

“In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold (Ephesians 4:26).”

This is the verse the Lord impressed upon my heart as I was asking for a topic for this article. It’s familiar to anyone who has ever experienced any Christian counseling, and like many Bible verses it bears closer examination.  Translations differ slightly in rendering this passage and the Greek contains some interesting insights, but Paul was quoting from Psalm 4 where the intent of the passage was established. Let’s begin there.
